I recently had windows installed in my home thrtough what I thought was a reputable company, only to have a horrible messy job done substandardly. When I arrived home from work to see the new windows they had installed, the installation was done totally wrong with the window mounted completely on the inward side of the wall. This left a 2" gap from the window to the flashing which would just invite water to enter my walls on the outside of the home. On the inside of the home, there was expandable foam wiped all on the window casings as well as caulking and dirty finger marks. As well, the window coverings no longer worked as the window cranks interfered with them.
My walls are quite thick as the home has been energy efficient renovated over the years. The manufacture sticker even stated to mount the windows on the most outward side of the wall.
The window company refused to come back and remount the windows correctly, intead, showed up without my permission and "patched up" the window flashing on the outside.
As a single dad, I was very tied up with work and could not take the time off to supervise, a move I have since hugely regretted. The window company then sent my file to collections, while none of the problems with my windows were fixed. As I did not know how how to fight this, I simply paid the bill to protect my credit rating.
The next time I get a renovation done, I will be here to supervise, I will do more research into companies. I HATE coming home and looking at the windows in my house. Perhaps some day, I will hire a company to re-install them properly.
Next time before I invest, I will investigate.
I'm now in the works of trying to get my kitchen re-done....any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm off to the home show now. Best wishes on your renovation
