Concrete in front of house

Sal the owner of stoneridge did concrete work in front of my house leaving a hole in the concrete 1 foot in front of my door and not slope the concrete pad so water will not drain off of the concrete. Sal tried to tell my wife and I this was ok. I called 2 contractors to come and check stoneridges work. Both were disgusted with the job we received. Sal had no answers as to how could this be fixed and only worried about getting paid. We agreed at a set discounted price even tho we were very disappointed Sal reassured us he would be back to parg the cement but since we paid him he has changed his mind and did not finish the work. Sal still owes me money back for the parging part of the job but refuses to pay us back even tho his work was very very bad. My advice is to stay as far away from this company as possible. They are not honest people and once you pay them they will not return calls

Approximate cost of services:
$3,000.00

Company Response

Michael Wilkins entered into a contract with our company to do his driveway in asphalt as well as his front area in white concrete. We called the night before to advised him that we wanted to dig out his project. They had advised us not to come. They wanted to cancel the contract. After reviewing the issue with them they decided to proceed. They authorized us to excavate the job. Once excavated we reviewed the job and everyone was content. The next day we poured the concrete. At that point Mr. Wilkins had provided a further deposit but had not paid the concrete or the driveway in full as the driveway still was to be completed. We cautioned off the concrete job as usual and left the job. The next day he contacted our office and said that something had hit the concrete. We attended his home and reviewed his concern. After we had left and later that evening something must have touched the concrete because it left a minor indentation. The indentation was not our responsibility as we cannot babysit the job for 24 hours. Mr. Wilkins wanted something done. We offered to cut a square patch and repour the cement. He didn’t want that. He became very angry. What Wilkins failed to understand was that the minor indentation occurred after the job was completed. it was not our responsibility. We offered to cut out square patch. He did not want that done. We still had the issue of completing the driveway which at that time he decided he did not want us to finish. He asked for a monetary compensation. Actually when reviewing what was completed and what was still outstanding he owed us $2500.00. Mr. Wilkins became unreasonable and therefore Stone-Ridge decided to walk away from the job with a loss. Mr. Wilkins agreed that we would not ask for the $2500.00 and that neither parties would have any further obligations. Both parties signed a waiver of commitment. Stone-Ridge still had to complete the parging of the concrete but during a phone call Mr. Wilkins decided that he did not want us to attend his home any further. We had also decided that after receiving harasing phone calls at 4:30 am we were not taking any further phone calls from him. Mr. Wilkins has made unnecessary phone calls at all hours of the day and night, leaving nasty messages. During one phone call conversation Stone-Ridge Paving advised him that there was no further obligation on our part. Unfortunately this is a situation where a customer cannot be satisfied. We have tried our best, even taking a huge loss. Stone-Ridge Paving completes any where from 800 to 900 jobs a year and you cannot make everyone happy, even when they have profited. If it was possible and not a privacy issue we would be glad to provide Mr. Wilkins' home address so that potential clients could view his minor issue. Stone-Ridge Paving has received the customer's gold business award 2 years in a row. Obviously that speaks words.
