18 windows, 3 doors, 4000sqft roof, 5 skylights

We hired Home Depot to replace all windows, doors, roof and skylights. They sub contracted DARO VINYL. We were promised many things, one of which a turnkey operation with a site supervisor we never got either. The employee who quoted the job and promised us many things ended up quitting 2 months later and we had to argue with the owner to get what we were promised, now he is trying to charge us for those things. I ended up on crutches for 2 weeks because they left their tools laying around the house when they weren't here, we had a window and door go missing out of our garage and the owner would show up at late hours of the night unannounced. They measured all the windows wrong and we got too small of windows, they forgot to order the vinyl casings, the windows and doors were the wrong color, they put a vent in our attic instead of in the garage, we had a skylight smash into millions of pieces in my kitchen because they put a nail through it by accident, we had leaking coming through our ceiling because of the roof, all 3 doors still leak and have holes in the bottom that freeze in the winter. We are now going through legal action. They also put a skylight that was too small and it leaked all over my living room floor for a whole day, this actually caused $40000 in damage that was claimed through insurance. There are many more problems, 17 pages worth. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY is all I have to say.

Approximate cost of services:
$35,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
They could keep their promises, they could supply employees who don't have criminal records, they could supply employees who have their own tools and know how to install skylights without us having to print off the manual. They could learn to do their job better and stop claiming to be awesome.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Hiring a big company such as Home Depot is not always the answer. We hired them because we didn't want all kinds of different companies coming through our home but in the end we had many more problems than we bargained for. Go with the small, local company who has a good reputation.

Company Response

In response to this client, firstly we must say that not all facts introduced in this complaint are accurate. We will not start a game of "he said, she said", however we must in turn defend our actions in this case. When this client contacted Home Depot to do the work on their home, we had only been exclusive to Home Depot for a short time. When dealing with a large corporation such as them, we do not always have the upper hand and first response to our clients. What I mean to say by this is that too many people were involved in the decision making for the installation, products and communications, which in turn resulted in miscommunication of many situations. We will not go into details however, we stand by our company and the workmanship we provide. We have been a reputable company in the Sudbury area for over 14 years and are growing and acheiving great succeess with clients. With dealing with litteraly thousands of clients, only one complained on this site. This means that majority of our clients were fully satisfied. We encourage you to come see us or call us and see for yourselves the service and professionalism we provide for all.
