Impressed

We recently had a problem with a leak coming from our kitchen sink and flowing down the outside of the drain pipe into our basement. At first I thought it was the basket strainer but our worst fears were realized. It was actually the drain pipe. We contacted The Drain Man on March 20th and spoke to a very personable gentleman who said they could have someone there the next day. The plumber who goes by the name J C arrived ON TIME the next day and he too was quite personable. We talked for awhile and he was able to figure out what the problem was and quoted us a price. I found the price to be quite reasonable. J C said he would be able to repair the piping on Thursday, that's only 3 days after my original call. J C arrived on time and proceeded to complete the job but it wasn't without problems and obstacles in his way. I won't go into detail but J C was able to improvise and complete the job ON TIME even with the many obstacles he encountered. I would use The Drain Man again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family members and friends. Great job and quite impressed.

Sewer replacement from Back flow drain to city Y-connection.

We had a large tree root growing in our Y-connection to the city sewer pipe. The company was very professional, showed us the large root with the camera and suggested that it should be attended to. There was no pressure to get it done right away but said there would be a problem down the road. We had them replace the pipe and Y-connection. Mike and Teddy did the work, digging and replacing the pipes. They were very courteous and answered all our questions. The root they pulled out of the pipe was very large and it was obvious to us that it really needed to be done. The drain man called the city after the work was done and within a few hours the city came, marked the gas lines and put a camera down the city pipes. The pipes are all clear now and we are really glad we had the work done. I would recommend this company and would definitely use them in the future.

Installation of Backwater Valve

When I was researching plumbing companies to install a Backwater Valve in my home, my father-in-law recommended The Drain Man. They had installed a Backwater Valve in his home after their Scarborough neighbourhood experienced basement flooding.
Bill Barber was prompt and courteous when he came for the initial site inspection and quote.
His crew - Mike and Teddy - were very friendly and professional. They let me know what they were going to do and - ideally- how they were going to do it. When a potential problem with the project came up (old clay pipe just outside the foundation) they consulted me right away and worked to problem solve the issue with great skill. Work was completed within their estimated time and to my complete satisfaction.

Backflow Valve, Sump Pump

I've dealt with many contractors and plumbers during my 15 years in East York and without question I put Bill at the top of the list. His team was meticulous in keeping my home tidy during some very difficult and messy work. The team was polite and did everything on-time as promised. If there was a delay (one day we had rain), Bill called 1st thing in the morning to advise me of work status and next steps. I was so impressed by The Drain Man!!!

Waterproofing basement

My cellar began to flood and I called Bill, owner of the Drain Man with whom I'd done business before. It turned out to have been caused by an underground stream and my deteriorating foundations. The work was done from the inside, saving me money. The main drain was also replaced and a section left out so I could see how much tree root had grown into it. It took a few weeks, truly a difficult job, but he and his team did it well. I would use his services again without question for any plumbing problems I might have.

Backflow valve and sump pump

Along with many of our neighbours we experienced sewer backup and basement flooding as s result of a major rainstorm in July 2012.
Bill, the owner of The Drain Man and his crews were already assisting other homeowners on our street when I asked him about installing a backflow preventer in our sewer line but he promptly came over and gave us an assessment. He also recommended a sump pump because we had an exterior drain outside our basement door that needed to be disconnected from our drain system. Bill's crew was very helpful and knowledgeable and Bill also assisted in preparing the paperwork for the city rebate.

Back Flow Drain

The Drain Man "father and son" plus their staff did a great job on an exterior back flow pre-ventor. My area was flooded twice last summer, we were a near miss. Adding the exterior back flow pre-ventor was insurance for our finished basement and the bonus was having the forms filled out for a city rebate. I would recommend the Drain Man.

Installed Backflow Valve & removed main drain trap

We were one of many Toronto homes that had our basement entirely flooded out during the “Rain Storm of the Century” back in July. To help prevent another city backup I decided to get a backflow valve installed. I did my usual thing and called the top five contractors on Homestars, got quotes while letting them know I was getting others and then make a selection. I have to say two of the highest rated, established, large franchise companies really appeared to be price gouging to take advantage of all the panic of the current situation and another two didn’t even want to bother scoping my drain to see the current state, they just wanted me to commit to installing the valve.

I was still undecided on whom to go with when I noticed The Drain Man had been working on both the house across from me and next to me. I talked with Bill (Owner of The Drainman) who was supervising one of the projects. Just from looking over at my house he advised I was likely partially if not completely blocked up because I still had a main trap buried in my front yard (he could see the breather vent cap in my lawn) and large debris from the city was likely stuck in it. He grabbed his scope, checked the drain and sure enough I was backed up and on the verge flooding myself out. He went back to his truck, grabbed a really long plunging device, fed it down the breather in the front yard and plunged away for a moment. All of a sudden there was a loud BLUNK sound and you could hear water glugging away for the next minute. None of the other 5 plumbing companies even mentioned my trap could be plugged, not only did Bill catch this right away but he scoped and plunged it without even bringing up a fee, nor was one ever charged. I was sold. Not only did Bill/The Drain Man know what they were doing but unlike the feeling I got from the others they also weren’t in it just for a quick cash grab. I committed to having The Drain Man not only install a backflow valve but also remove the city trap since it was likely currently blocked up with large immovable debris pushed in from the city and even if it wasn’t it was a good idea to get it out of there.

Anthony and Jason did the bulk of the work installing both the backflow valve and removing the old trap and replacing it with a double clean out. Just as Bill had predicted, the trap was 75% blocked up with large rocks and stick which had zero chance of being flushed out. Both John and Bill supervised the work and gave extra attention to the installation of the backflow valve and double clean outs. They also arranged for the city to inspect the installation of the backflow valve to help ensure I could get the city rebate for it. During the whole process every one of The Drain Man team was polite, friendly and respectful of our property. The work was completed within the estimated time frame and both areas were thoroughly cleaned up upon completion of the work. Bill and John also helped me fill out the backflow rebate form and I’m glad to report I received it about 6 to 8 weeks after mailing it out. Bill also popped by twice since the work was completed just to ensure I was happy with the service and if I had any questions about the maintenance of the backflow valve.

From start to finish I was extremely happy with the honesty, efficiency and quality of service I received from The Drain Man. Not only was I impressed but so were my neighbors as the two houses north of me and three houses south of me also went with The Drain Man ] and everyone was also very satisfied. They may not be one of the big names on Home Stars but they’ve been around for over 35 years and that experience was very apparent in the work they’ve done for me. I strongly suggest anyone with drain issues does themselves a favor and at least has The Drain Man provide an assessment and estimate.

Water leaking in basement

I had a leak in my basement and had no idea what to do or what was happening. I phoned a variety of people including the city of Toronto. Drain Man, assessed the problem explained in detail what was causing the issue and also Snaked my pipes for now extra charge and as he did that the water just left the house. It was amazing and took a lot of my frustrations away. I would definately use Drain Man services again.

Breather switched to clean out system

In a time where customer service is often pretty shoddy, The Drain Man was a total delight from the first call to the finished job. Excellent responsive communication, efficient work, very pleasant workman, great job and wonderful cleanup. Big shout out to Teddy and Tyrone who came on a Saturday, worked like crazy, and finished the job the same day. Also big thanks to Ray, who was a huge help. Clearly, I strongly recommend this company. Two thumbs up.
