Tufdek waterproofing

It looks good for 2 years. After that you need to top coat every year in order to seal the deck flooring since they break due to weather. It's not cheap decking system

Ducan TufDek rubber coating

Eleven years ago, I installed a outside deck built with pressure treated plywood. In searching for an elastomeric coating, I came across Ducan. I researched the product and decided to go for it - even though the techs told me that it was not good on pressure treated wood. Unfortunately it
was not available for sale in Nova Scotia so I had to have the system shipped in by a local building company. I followed the recommended process and am very satisfied. The light colour has remained. The coating did develop some stretch cracks after two years in a west exposure likely due to ice, snow, and hot sun. Additionally, occasional bubbles did rise up probably due to some internal moisture in the wood but they eventually subsided. I was advised that left over top coating should be good for two years as long as it is well sealed in the container. I have maintained a plastic cover on the surface of the liquid and tight lid. Each year in the spring I touch up any little cracks that have developed over the winter. After all this time, the deck is water tight and still attractive. Couldn't be happier. Bill Reinhart

sundeck coating

This product simply does not work well. It is hard to apply and some pails are very lumpy..indicitive of poor quality control. Very poor customer support and although the application was done exactly as per instructions it failed. Ducan refused to replace the product even after a professional testing company confirmed it was defective.

Ducan Liquid Sundeck Coating

This product is a great alternative to the vinyl decking which we didn't like as you can see the seams. So this goes on somewhat like paint- you mud and tape the seams of the plywood, sand, prime, paint on rubber coating, then paint on the colour of your choice. Seems easy- however it is not. I like the product- but it has been a hassle to do ourselves. Each coat needs the surface to be dry for 24 hrs before application, and at least 24-72 hours after application, which is very hard if you live in a rainy area- and it can't be over 30 degrees Celsius either. Also, after all is done you are supposed to stay off of the deck for 14 days- which sucks. Be very careful when mudding/sanding and make sure all dust/dirt is removed before priming and painting. You will see the seams or mud that hasn't been sanded well when you are finished and it won't look good! Make sure your T&G plywood is as perfect as you can find- the less damages to cover up the easier it is and better it will look. It's a great product- but maybe easier to hire someone to do it!
