Handyman Reno

I called Best Bet after looking thru their website. At the time I had not seen the Homestars Review from 2012. They came and did a small reno so I could open up a wall in my kitchen. Naturally this meant some plastering and perfecting the final product as this work is extremely visible. It is the wall between my kitchen and family room. First, after the vent was relocated Best Best plastered the vent cover into the wall, so it could not be removed for cleaning etc. I called them back to undo the plastering and fix the wall so it was level. He blamed the HVAC company for using the wrong vent cover. The wall they were plastering for me was extended by 6 inches when it leaves the floor but it is only extended by 5 inches in width by the time it connects with the ceiling. The plastering job is completely poor with holes and dents. In order for us to paint this wall, we had to use putty/sanding and do another 5 hours of work in order to paint. On the day that I called them back to correct the job, the gentlemen was extremely rushed. He sanded down one wall and then started to leave. I had to ask, if he was not going to do the second wall. Honestly, I am extremely disappointed. I made no fuss about paying their asking price, so I expected better service in return. I would not use this company again nor would I be willing to recommend them.

Shower Renovation

The previous review from bikeman' was useful to me sadly after the fact. So called Best Bet Renovations, completely destroyed my shower, cracked our expensive tiles and mounted it just the same with the chips and cracks.

Water settled in the shower base as there was no pre-slope, tiles started falling off the walls due to lack of adhesive (1 day after so called installation). While the owner of the business was in my home I reviewed the job and showed him tiles that were coming down from the ceiling and he blamed it on his assistant. I later realized that he did not correct the mistake.

The shower door on opening was making a crying noise, after careful inspection found out it was not installed properly. Missing some of the screws that came with the unit. He left and took the installation booklet for the shower door along with the hardware and tools that came with it for installation. We called him back in and showed him the less than mediocre job he did and his excuse was to blame his assistant once again. We asked him if he'd noticed that his assistant was doing a bad job why not correct it instead of leaving it the same way - no response. He wasn't willing to correct the job then, or now or ever.

We had to have the entire shower enclosure gutted and redone.

Do yourself a favour and keep away from this company or if you decide to let them unto your premises, watch them every step of the way and let them know the materials you want used in your home. Better yet, let him show you what he purchased to work on your home. I seriously think the butter he used on the tiles that got some material on them, he concocted himself to save money. They are a huge rip off.

To top it off he went over the timeline agreed on, destroyed my newly installed hardwood and made a mess of my master bedroom, ensuite and scratched up my vanity.

He left my place a mess and half the garbage in my garage.

I had a contract with these people and they did not honour it. My queue from the onset that I was dealing with unethical and unscrupulous people was he quoted me one price of $2800 first, then $3300. Because I didn't say much on the pricing at the time, he went further to say a job like this is $5800 to $6500 including fixtures and everything. I told him we have everything we want installed, he just needs to do the installation and that he fell short of fulfilling.

bathroom renovation

i asked for a new tub and replace the vinyl surround to my bathroom, what i got was a new tub, and a vinyl surround that did not go to the ceiling. when i asked why it does not go all the way to the ceiling like the old one, he said that it was custom sized and would cost $700. i just checked at the home depot and they do sell vinyl surrounds that will go the ceiling. and to top it off he replaced all the drywall in the bath area, buy i have to putty and sand the drywall seams. i asked about it and he told it would cost another $300 to do this. in all realty it would take him no more then 1 hour to do this. I'm so fed up with this i"m throwing out the vinyl because it looks like garbage, and am hiring someone else to do the job right. total cost of materials $150 for tub, $300 for surround and 900 to the plumber for 1 days work. not very professional at all. top top it off hey stained my carpet with his boots so more money down the drain. i have to postpone the sale of my house because this.
