took my money - did not help

I took a blind in to Sheila's with a broken cord.
I was quoted $20 for replacement of the cord.
It was noted that the blind had 'lost it's memory".
When I picked it up, 4 cords had been replaced when
they made it sounds like only 1 was needed.
I found out later from another company that the blind
should have been replaced under lifetime warranty
with Hunter Douglas and that they knew this and could
have told me they would send it in for replacement and
saved me replacing the cords on a blind that was not keeping
it's shape.
Live and learn.
This company could have assisted a customer and earned respect
and loyalty but instead opted to take the $100.

Approximate cost of services:
$100.00

Company Response

Unfortunately the company that you spoke to is not entirely correct in their information. Other than the fact that the honeycomb fabric had lost it's memory this is not an issue that Hunter Douglas would have replaced your blind as it is not a warranty issue. Warranty work if for the original purchaser of the blind and I could have sent the blind back to Hunter Douglas for inspection and repair in Ontario but, as stated in your warranty, you would have been responsible for the costs of getting the blind to Ontario. They would have most likely only recorded it if they would have done any repair work at all. It took me over half an hour to get all the honeycomb pleats back into their proper creases so that the blind could be properly operated. While one cord was broken, the others were so twisted that they the impeded the proper lifting and lowering of the blind. I replaced all the cords and did some other minor repairs in the head rail so that this blind would operate smoothly for you. The reason why the blind is not holding it's shape is because it is not being lifted up into it's fully retracted position at least 20% of the time. By performing this operation you help the polyester fabric that the blind is made of retain it's pleat memory. I explained this when the blind was picked up. All honeycomb blinds and any fabric blinds for that matter should be lifted to the fully retracted position to help retain the fold or pleat memory. By letting the blind hang in the closed position covering your window stretches the fabric and "teaches" it a new position for the folds. The blind you picked up at my store was neat, tidy and compactly pleated and operating in a nice smooth manner which was the opposite to the blind you dropped off. We offer blind repairs merely as a customer service not as a money grab and I fell that I assisted you and resolved your problem in the most cost effective way rather than take advantage. I have worked with Hunter Douglas and been doing blind repairs for years and I am well versed in what would be considered warranty work. I work hard to get Hunter Douglas blind owners looked after whether it be a warranty issue or a simple repair regardless of where they purchased their blinds. Sorry you received some incorrect information and feel like something else could have been done by Hunter Doulgas and us.
