Reade Contracting

Mike was way over budget and way over time. In Feb. of the coldest winter on record, 3 months over-due, we still had no furnace, he had forgotten about the HVAC permit & the HVAC plan was useless -had to pay to have it redone because he hadn't ever looked at it. He left a 23 yr old in charge of the job and was only on site when he wanted payment. Crew never worked more than 30 hrs/week. He refused to discuss our concerns and threatened to leave if we didn’t cough up more $. $50,000 over budget, 3 months overdue, he walked away & we had to finish the job ourselves.

Mike and his very personable team made our vision a reality. We choose Mike for his attentiveness to our needs in our initial conversations, his competitive quote and his reassurance that the job wasn't impossible (digging out a cellar and rebuilding the foundation walls + 2-storey addition in the back of a land-locked house with no direct access!) - other contractors dismissed us outright! We were not let down. Paperwork was detailed, costs were right on, any extras or unforeseen issues were discussed beforehand. Mike was also great with the building inspector -- made sure we had all the correct permits/paperwork and was there whenever the inspector showed up. Mike's attention to detail is probably what we get the most comments on: the 6 panel doors he built to match the existing ones are awesome! Mike has also been there for any questions or follow-up issues we've had, coming over to the house on his own time. We would use Mike for future projects - but I can't imagine what else we need done now - he did it all!!

When we decided to gut our house, blow out the back wall, tear off the roof and add a second storey, we knew we had to choose our contractor carefully. We made the right choice with Reade Contracting. Mike and his team worked seamlessly to create great results. He worked 5 - sometimes 6 - days a week, realizing our vision, while coordinating trades and offering sound advice. The project took months - yet Mike kept us informed and accommodated our (many) changes as the work progressed. His carpentry skills are notable; he really takes pleasure in his work. He was thorough in his paperwork and true to his word. All that with a great sense of humour, too! Neighbours even commented on how tidy and courteous the team was!
Can't say we'll take on another huge project any time soon, but if we did, we would certainly turn to Reade Contracting again!

Mike and his guys tore down an old sunroom, then rebuilt the kitchen/dining room and also added another bedroom. All facets were covered plumbing, roofing/siding, electrical, heating - and everything went smoothly! The progress was easy to follow as the draws were always accurately broken down - result was that it came in right on budget. The work was fantastic - I am very pleased with the way my house came out. I would highly recommend Reade Contracting!

Reade Contracting came to the rescue after I fired a nightmare-of-a-Contractor before him. He was there 6 days a week at 7am sharp for several months. Paperwork was efficient and timely. They were able to help not only with structural issues, load bearing walls and beams (open concept) for example but with fine details like custom window trim manufacture...right in my living room! Mike, the GC, uses some great sub-trades too. His HVAC guys worked with me closely to design and retrofit an ultra efficient heating system with On-demand hot water in a century home...with no bulkheads for ductwork! His Drywallers worked hard to repair and reinstall much of the job botched by the previous contractor. His plumber Greg was quiet as a mouse and redid all the plumbing in a week. No problem. My house was a challenge not only because of its size, age and...well...unique shape and Mike handled it no problem. We stay in touch and I will surely use him again (when I put more money together).

We were happy to have Mike and his crew from Reade in our home during the lowering of our Riverdale basement. They did an excellent job underpinning the foundation, lowering the floor by 20 inches, redoing the drains and bringing the project to a stage where a couple of DIY homeowners could take over. Mike was flexible as we changed our design and helped us plan the parts of the job we wanted to finish ourselves. The inevitable issues that arise in the course of a major job (changes to the scope of work, unexpected discoveries etc) were handled with the utmost integrity and professionalism. He was available to us, after the job was completed and paid for, to answer questions about the work we were doing in the basement. I have recommended Mike to others and would be certain to call him on our next project.

We had a new kitchen put in our house in the Beaches. Reade contracting were excellent in their workmanship, finished on time and charged a completely fair price. The kitchen was absolutely beautiful with every detail finished to perfection.

We were very happy with the deck Reade built for us in the summer. They did it quickly, they were clean and trustworthy and they did a great job! Mike gave us a thorough quote and stuck to it. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future and would happily recommend them to friends or family.

They did an excellent job, were a pleasure to work with, did what they committed to do and worked issues through with us in a fiscally responsible manner.
We needed a complete reno of an Annex house over 100 yrs. old that had not been touched in years. The Company provided a reasonable thought through quote and stuck to it. There were extras, we agreed on a price, and they were done professionally and on time.
It has been said that some renos will fall down around you and all that will be left is the overpriced fridge. Not in this case. And so far the minor after completion work is being addressed.
