Purchased a Water Heater using Costco's Home Services. Online appointment with Peel Heating & Air Conditioning was booked for May 22/2023 @ 10:00AM. No one called. It took 5 calls to the Peel Heating & Air Conditioning Call Center to get a Sales person to call me back at 1:15PM. Unfortunately purchases made via Costco Home Service don't provide value for money. Costco referred me to Peel Heating and was charged $3,600.00 plus tax for the installation of a Rheem PV50 Water tank, which retails for approximately $1,800.00. Installation and "Warranty" charges of $1,800.00 is really steep. I requested a breakdown of charges from the Sales Manager last week, and so far no response. The average life of Water Heater is approximately 10 years, and their "Extended Warranty" of 4 years magically coincides with 10 years. Interestingly, the average cost of $30.00/mth over 10 years, is not much different from a Rental Water Heater of approximately $33.00/mth, with no upfront costs. That being said purchasing a Water Heater from a "Big Box" Store or from another reputable supplier, and having it installed for $500 to $800 is the way to go. In conclusion their is no benefit to using Costco Home Services for both Tank and Tankless Water Heaters.
After many more calls to Peel Heating And Air Conditioning, I received a call from their General Manager on 2023-06-08. He apologized, and advised me they would be looking into my concerns. I advised him the Call Center and the Install Crew provided quality service, but I couldn't say the same for the Sales Manager and Sales Person.
I've updated, "How satisfied are you with this company" from a 0 to 4 based on the resolution on 2023-06-08. A reasonable settlement was reached.
I've updated, "How likely are you to recommend this company" from a 0 to 2, hoping the pricing model will be changed to reflect my feedback and concerns.
In conclusion always ask for a breakdown of costs: materials, labour, extended warranty, etc..
Please note, the cost of $3,600 is before taxes.
