Thank you so much for the review Linda !!! Arn't new homes a funny thing? I don't mean "ha, ha" funny, but the problems that they can have? It's amazing how many people buy a new home because they basically just want a home that's "problem free". Most of these buyers are in for a rude awakening! New homes can have many more issues than homes that are much older. Many people will ask me if I live in a new home. Nope, I live in a 50 year old home. Then they will follow it up with, "would I buy a new home?" Well, yes, I would. It's just you have to be real careful with home builders. Let's just leave it at that. Thanks again Linda! I always find it so ammusing when realtors or homebuyers/sellers tell me, "wow, my home inspector doesn't do that". I simply respond, "hmmm, well they should be". Please understand this, most home inspectors are lazy. In my books, they give more excuses than they do answers. Which in turn, totally kills it for inspectors like myself who are trying the best they can. Thank you Sarah for the review, I do take these things seriously !!! I do try and offer practical solutions when possible. Some home inspectors like to justify their job by making a big deal out of things, it makes them seem like some kind of a hero or something. In so many cases, there are simple fixes. No, I don't downplay things, it just seems to me that a lot of common sense on certain things have gone out the window. A lot of home inspectors who have no idea what they are talking about like to be a little more dramatic. I try not to be one of them. Let's face it, spending so much money on a home, the last thing a person should get is a lousy home inspection. How many times do I hear people say, " man, this guy is thorough". Yes, as you will read here and in other comments that I have made, I try and make it an experience. A home inspection is not just some guy (or lady) going in to find a bunch of problems with a home. It's someone going in to help you understand the home. There will be good things with it, bad things with it, and somewhere in between. The home inspectors goal should be to have you understand everything. I'm glad that I was of help! Please, let me know if the dears head is available. You make an interesting comment about real estate agents. It's the ongoing argument as to if one should use their agents inspector or not. Well, this is what I can tell you, do I work with agents? yes I do. Do they also understand that I may "kill" the deal for them, yes they do! I simply feel this, the person who hires me and who is paying the bill is the one I give answers to, no one else. I tell it like it is. I am not an alarmist, I try and give economical solutions when possible, and believe that not everything needs to be fixed with a bulldozer like the guy on tv. I try to be as practical as possible.
