Top floor hardwood installation

It is a year almost to the day this installation took place- it has taken that time to ensure my feedback is balanced, accurate and corroborated by professionals (5 in total). The floor installation took place on top of new T&G 3/4 inch plywood substrate making it much earlier than over 90 year old boards or old hardwood flooring. All materials except brads were owner supplied and delivered and located in actual workspace. Most furniture was removed. Baseshoe had not been installed and the five door entries had new jambs left long by the trim carpenter for the floor installer to undercut for precision. No other trades were present, the work site is an older Beach home, heated and parking was provided. The tradesman offered a list of people who offered to recommend him but he was recommend to me by a salesperson at the reputable mill-work business on Gerrard.

The job: The expensive bull nose was grossly damaged when cut (1st piece installed), installed incorrectly by being cantilevered too much. 4 entry doors in the hall with the new long jambs left long were NOT under-cut (!?). Instead, inaccurately angled hardwood fails to meet the jam leaving unsightly gaps. Two closet doors were treated similarly but with greater gaps. In the rear sun room an area needing to be shimmed (very simple) and was not. That area dips visibly and attracts the eye’s attention because the baseboard emphasizes the discrepancy. Now too, there is squeaking at the threshold to the room due to poor installation. There are literally countless top-nailed holes throughout left unfilled (there should be many fewer and all filled.

Five ‘expert’ assessments have been made as to what can be done (installers and the president of a large flooring business with 50 years service). One 'expert' was the very salesperson who personally endorsed Peter and had a hard time understanding what happened. All were left unable to make a recommendation beyond covering with carpet which defeats the purpose of hardwood, or tearing out the job- a possible $5000+ cost including replacement materials. Peter was advised of my displeasure (by the referee) and called and left a message saying he would return the call. That never occurred. In a 3 year renovation this will be just one of many stories, but read this carefully before hiring.

I have tried my best not make this review personal- I usually have pleasure extending very personal praise about great trades (read other reviews). In the end, I found out this tradesman has no apprenticed or ticketed carpentry skills (coming to the business from an unrelated occupation) and has few of the tools specific to his chosen trade (used a Skillsaw to cut a plinth block- a real no-no). I cannot explain the “10” reviews, nor can I really say how I failed to react more vigorously- dismissal for instance- after the first piece of wood was cross-cut so amateurishly (upside down). Legal claims have been explored but not ruled out.

Hardwood Install

DO NOT hire Peter if you care about quality and existing wood floors in your home. We hired Peter to "fill in" a newly opened stair well where existing hardwood had already been laid. He did not follow specific verbal instructions or a request, took short cuts, was careless and showed little skill in problem solving. When challenged about his choices, he became defensive and attempted to blame the error on another tradesperson in the house. Though agreeable in demeanour initially, he demonstrates very little skill. If you desire even adequate work DO NOT hire him.

Beautiful new pre-finished flooring

My husband and I just bought a new home. The floors were covered with wall-to-wall carpeting and the kitchen/dining room was covered in linoleum. As we were embarking on a major renovation, we decided to rip out all of the existing flooring and install pre-finished hardwood flooring throughout the house. We contacted 4 Hardwood Flooring Companies and Peter at Beach Hardwood Flooring was by far the most impressive. THeir prices were mid-range however Peter was very professional and he spent a lot of time with us explaining our options. We felt very comfortable with him from the beginning. Within a day we had our quote back from Peter and he gave us a list of references. We called a couple of random references and they gave him a glowing review. Because of the extent of our renovations, we were forced to install the flooring in several phases. Peter was there when he said he would be, he installed the flooring according to our schedule and his workmanship was superb. Other tradesman we hired were not nearly as professional as Peter and they sometimes caused him to be delayed. He always accommodated us with a smile and he never had a problem. The floors were stunning. We would use BEach Hardwood Flooring again without hesitation and I have already recommended them to our friends.
Thank you Peter!

Laminate and hardwood installed

i am very happy with the job done by Peter. I saw several examples of his work before making my decision to use his company. We had Laminate used on one floor of our home and hardwood on another.

Income property renovation

I've used Peter and his crew at Beach Hardwood Flooring on several projects now and have been extremely satisfied by their professionalism and service. Working in the industry as a design and colour consultant, I need to have reliable trades people I can count on. Beach Hardwood Flooring is prompt in getting back to me and realistic about their quotes and time frames so I don't have to go back to my clients with bad news. They are very respectful of the homes they work in and clean up their messes at the end of each project. My clients have been thrilled with the results and choices I've helped them make. I will continue to use Peter for future projects. Peter makes me look good!

Hardwood Flooring refinishing and installation

I have used Beach Hardwood Flooring services for more than 10 years for refinishing and new installation in two properties. Their prices are better than anyone else, they are reliable and their work is top notch - second to none. I will not be calling anyone else in the future for work to be done. I would recommend them to everyone.

Hardwood flooring

I have lived in two separate residences in recent years, and had Bill and Peter install and finish the hardwood floors in both my homes. Their prices are reasonable, and they let you know exactly what has to be done, how much it will cost, and they stay within the guidelines. They are prompt, and take great pride in their accomplishments. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is interested in having the floors done. If I ever have to move again, I know I can count on them to do a great job.
