Sunroom Addition

In February of 2012 we commenced Phase 2 of the project --- demolition of the old porch and construction of a new sunroom. Sandra introduced me to Vaughan who would be the on-site foreman for the job. Work got underway and very quickly the old porch was gone except for the roof that was supported by jacks as per our plan to maintain the look and feel of the house. The steel piles were drilled for the foundation and a form was built for the concrete pad which would become the floor. The concrete was poured and allowed to cure. Next, the framing was done and the room started to take shape. About this time, Sandra and I had a wonderful day outing to select windows, brick, and flooring. I was so appreciative to have Sandra’s knowledge and expertise in helping me select these important elements for the new room.

Work continued with the closing in of the walls and the application of polyurethane foam insulation. A desired design feature of the room was a vaulted ceiling which would be constructed of tongue-and-grove wood stained to match the colour of the trim in the rest of the home. The low height of the room and the desire to have a light/fan fixture made the vaulted ceiling even more necessary. The ceiling is stunning and has exceeded my expectations!

We had talked about doing a brick veneer, but Sandra and I had difficulty sourcing this as everyone seemed to prefer stone veneer now. As I wanted the exterior to match the rest of the home, stone was not an option and so we opted for using real bricks that had to be cut and laid individually. The brick layers did a fantastic job of matching the look of the addition with the rest of the house.

The windows I chose with Sandra were Pella with venetian blinds built into the glass. As these were special order, they took a bit longer to manufacture and put a delay on the schedule. It was well worth the wait as the windows are perfect!

For comfort, the floor has in-floor heating underneath a beautiful Maple hardwood floor. In addition a gas-stove in a brown enamel finish provides the heat. I do have the room wired for the possible addition of electric heaters in the future.

The painting and trim work were all done by Sandra’s team and reflect their commitment to quality.

The new sunroom is now a reality and is everything I dreamed it would be and more! I can enjoy the room all year and it has become a focal point of my home. The exterior of the room has exceeded my expectations in looking like it has always been part of the house. Sandra and her entire team were just wonderful to work with and I knew I was in good hands throughout the entire project. I have had a number of neighbours ask me who I had do my renovation and I tell them with pleasure that it was Sandra and her team at Lifetime Contractors. I would definitely use them again in the future and highly recommend them. They really do take care in what they do and I felt that they were designing and building a home that they would want to live in.

Lifetime Contractor gave our family the best renovation experience we've ever had. From the first conceptual meetings where honest budgeting and clear timelines were discussed through well-advised shopping trips to the last coat of paint we felt secure and confident in our choice. The contractor and crew were respectful, punctual and extremely skillful in bringing our dreams to a beautiful reality. It was also comforting to know that Lifetime Contractor are green renovators and take the time to teach and mentor future trades. Thanks to everyone at Lifetime for returning pride to our home.

Roof

Sandra and her team at A Lifetime Contractor were a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. They were reliable, trustworthy, understanding and professional. The job was well executed and the roofers worked for 8 hours plus a day under extreme heat to stick to the timelines presented when the job was quoted. I highly recommend their service to friends and family. They were fairly priced and kept their word. Great work Lifetime!

We have a very old house which had an unheated, enclosed porch in a dilapidated state. We engaged A. Lifetime Contractor to fix it and after discussions decided the best course of action would be to demolish the porch and rebuild, including residing the entire front façade. After many adventures wending our way through the City Hall bureaucracy, jumping through the many hoops and obstacles they put in our way, we got our permits (with no small thanks for the guidance and patience of Natalie and Antonella) and began the renovation.

When dealing with a hundred year old house things are never straight forward and as demolition of the old porch moved along we discovered several major structural problems including rotten sill plates, joists and a missing supporting wall in the basement that had been removed by a previous owner. As these problems cropped up Sandra and her team came up with solutions, gave us a cost estimate and a breakdown of the work involved and, once they had the go ahead, fixed them with speed and efficiency.

People in the neighbourhood would regularly comment on how impressed they were by the professionalism and dedication the whole team showed through rain and shine. A special mention goes to Scott, the site manager, who is an extremely hard working and pleasant person. He respected our home and neighbourhood, ensuring site was kept clean, safe and organized throughout the project.

Although the final cost of the project was much more than we had originally planned, it was not surprising considering the amount of extra work that needed to be done and we can honestly say the house is much better for it. We continue to get compliments from the neighbours. Everyone who worked on the renovation displayed expertise and professionalism: Scott who did the lion’s share of the work; Hector who did the detail work on the floor and doors; Graz who put on the beautiful Hardie Board siding and Stefan who did the lovely tile over the heated floor.

On two separate occasions, I have had the opportunity to experience the excellent workmanship of Lifetime Contractor. And I can now say that it was a pleasure on both occasions.

From the initial appointments, all commitments and schedules were met and the work was completed in a most professional and efficient manner. Sandra Baldwin has a knowledgeable and skilled team that not only work well together, but are extremely careful, do a thorough clean-up, and assure your total satisfaction before departing. As well, Sandra is in contact regarding progress, and personally follows up.

I highly recommend the services of Sandra and her team at Lifetime!

In 2010, we realized that we would need waterproofing done to our older house (1930). As recommended, we asked for and received 3 quotations.
By far, the most professional approach was by Sandra Baldwin from Lifetime Contractor. We selected her company, and that was the best move that we could have made.
The time selected was the end of July. It ended up being a sweltering heat-wave, very tight quarters, and one very difficult neighbour.
Sandra handled all of these trials and tribulations in a very commendable manner. I also run a business, and I was impressed with her demeanor throughout the whole job.
Because of the heat and limited access, the job took a little longer than anticipated. However, her workmen were exemplary. Every night the work area was covered, so it did not look like we were living in a constuction zone. Clean, neat, considerate, very professional.
For sure, if I needed any other work done, I would not even ask for other quotations, just go with Lifetime Contractor.
Reputable, reliable, I would not hesitate to recommend them!

I am delighted to recommend your work to anyone. Last summer, you took my outdated house frontage and gave it street presence and made it saleable. And it was a practical, smart and reasonable cosmetic design. It changed the house. And then there were the two emergencies, the broken stone step and the rotten deck boards, all emergencies, done in a matter of days. You can be counted on--dependable, reasonable, reliable, nice to do business with.
