I wish this rating system would allow me to give him a rating of less than 1. We met with him at the end of May 2007 and he agreed to do interlocking stone at our front entrance as well as lay flagstone down on our porch and build a stone patio. We were very open to suggestions and we asked him when he would be available. he suggested a start date of June 6th and I requested a finish date of June 20th. He said he could do it sooner but I wanted to be realistic. He requested a 50% downpayment which we assumed was standard so we gave it to him in cash. He said he would not charge tax if we paid cash..the should have been my first tip off. Anyway, he did not show up until the 8th and started working with 3 boys..not men..boys. He took 2 weeks to dig around our house. It was a ridiculous amount of time and he did not show up everyday. On the 19th he told my husband he would not finish by the 20 (fairly obvious at this point) and we did no hear from him again until the 22nd when he showed upto ask for more money! I was livid. I wrote a new contract and told him we would not pay. He shed quite a few tears and told us we requested addt'l work so he needed it to buy material. In a move of ultimate stupidity we gave him 50% of the total cost of additional work. We have not heard from him since...He drives a Dodge Ram with his logo on the side. He talks a good game but he has stolen our money. We are in the process of filing with Small Claims court.
