Our issue with Action movers is twice fold. We used them to move 2 families out of one home over 2 days. I was moving the second day so was not paying attention to what was happening on the first day. The person we spoke to was Mark and he e-mailed us a quote for 3 hours to move a small 2 bedroom basement suite. There were approx 50 boxes, a table, 6 chairs, 4 chest of drawers, 2 beds and some other small miscellaneous items. The movers were slow and billed for 6 hours, as well they broke a chair. They billed for 1 hour travel time as well as a 10% fuel surcharge. I was unaware of these additional costs as I was not involved with the bill. The next day I moved. We were quoted 6 to 7 hours and the movers we had were a lot faster and joked about the guys who were moving us the previous day. The movers were great, strong and good intentioned, however there were billing problems. When they arrived they advised me of the 1 hour travel time and the 10% fuel surcharge. It is the day of the move, how can i say no? I need to be out of my house and no point in arguing with the movers, they aren't the billing dept. I was billed for 9 hours, ok only 2 hours over what the original quote was, but 1 hour was "travel time" i wish I got paid to get to work.... As well the 10% fuel surcharge was an an absolute joke. We moved literally 2 blocks! I called Mark to go over my concerns and he told me that this was a standard in the industry. I am not in this industry so how would I know unless you put it on the quote. As well the 10% fuel surcharge was not on the quote either... They also damaged a chair and an armoire. I called and spoke to the owner Mark. Mark offered a 5% rebate on the fuel surcharge but never credited us. Oh well, I work in marketing and social media and know that sharing my experience will assist others in not being duped by this company, and hopefully help the company change their ways and be forthright with their customers. Thanks for reading and I hope you find another mover to deal with. I am on to share my experience on other websites and social media platforms.

Approximate cost of services:
$1,400.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Be honest and upfront with all costs involved.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Use a different company for your move. Get all costs up front and try to get a flat rate quote instead of an hourly quote.

Company Response

This review has to be one of the firsts, that truly shows how easy it is for consumers to write negative comments, without giving the full details. What Tim from surrey, forgot to mention first was our crew had horrible access the first day, and it came from a basement suite that had to go around the house which created a longer move than we quoted. Also, the chairs were covered in a silk cover provided by the customers that slipped out of our movers hand creating the leg to be damaged. (this chair was repaired within 48hrs and returned to the customer in better condition that origin). 2nd, after already moving them the 1st day and having a 1hr travel time + 10% F.S.C., this was mentioned during the time of booking, there should have been no confusion or issues for the 2nd part of the moving day. When we spoke with Tim we advised him that a credit would be applied to his credit card which it has. When we as a company deal with issues with our customers, we can not just go around slamming them all over social media tools, but instead of allowing this issue to be resolved, consumers feel the need to shorten the actual events in a negative way and spread the word.
