This contractor installed a deck without any support footings. When the building inspector came by he wanted it torn down. What was the contractor's response? The building inspector is wrong! They knew better than him! 3 other contractors came by to propose fixing the deck and couldn't believe the poor quality of the job. We demanded a refund and they just bailed.

Company Response

Gary, after closely examining our contract with you it is very clear that we were not commissioned to build you a complete new deck. What we had agreed to was to remove and replace deck boards, railings, and stairs. Our agreement also included repairing and solidifying the deck joists, which we did. What was also discussed was to use the existing supports, there was never any agreement to incorporate new support posts. When the project was completed you were happy, paid us in full, left us a positive review on a similar website, and even asked us to quote on an additional project. About Two months later you contacted us saying that you had an inspector pass by the house for an unrelated issue and you claimed that he pointed out a code violation and that the deck needed to be altered. At this point we were more than willing and cooperative to assist in fixing the so called code violation. We attempted to contact the inspector numerous times and requested a document illustrating the official cause of the code violation. We never heard back from the inspector and we were never given any documentation specifying the issue. At this point we decided that in order to keep you happy and preserve Grand Building's reputation we would send in one our trades people along with one of the owners to figure out a solution, which we did. The solution that we came up with was to install new additional supports, which you happily agreed to. Shortly after this meeting you contacted us back demanding that the deck be torn down and rebuilt or that you wanted a full refund. Let us be very clear, we never bailed on you, just like we have never bailed on any project before. The last correspondence we shared you said "At this point I have no interest in receiving any further correspondence from you, just a cheque".

Because of the excellent work they do. Windows are a huge investment and it is frustrating to replace them yet again due to a poor quality product and sloppy installation. Our new Bow window is Perfect! The interior trim work is outstanding and the manner in which the window fits the original opening compliments the front of our home and exceeded our expectations. The price was very reasonable - not the cheapest but not a complete waste of money. Our home built in 1960, had old leaky windows, a previous company had replaced the original windows in 1999 but did not seal them properly despite the sales agent clains and "customer service" call backs to fix the work. Hours of my time spent to let them in tear apart the framing and seal what shoud havc been done in the first place! To replace the "newer" windows I called Ridley and watched them like a hawk! Everything they did was up to the highest standard,They removed all the old windows right to the brick face and sealed the new units air tight with excellent trimming inside. The workmen were prompt, clean and very professional - They are Ridley employees who take pride in their work not contracted out installers as in the other company. If you have any questions, Don Ridley the owner will call you back promptly and stop by to answer any questions you have.
