Mike is a true professional that will work within your budget to give you exactly what you're looking for. He possesses qualities not easily found in contractors. He's honest, trustworthy, talented, quality-focused, and he surrounds himself with people that share his values. Our project started with us looking for someone to install flooring in an 80 year old home that we purchased in Niagara-on-the-Lake. We were thinking of doing some renovations to update the home but decided to hold off mainly due to the fact that we didn't know any contractors in the area and weren't ready to embark on any major renovations until we found someone we could trust. When we found Mike, it was with the intention of only installing new flooring in the house. When he was working on the flooring, we got to know him and his crew and we started discussing our other ideas as well as budget. Needless to say, what started as a simple flooring project, turned into a full-out renovation of the main level and making some updates to the second level (new doors, trim and Mike applied his expert craftsmanship to modifying new closet doors to accommodate for a sloped ceiling). Mike and Gail's (his lovely wife) floor plan ideas turned out to be perfect for the space limitations. The extra touches they also recommended are now our most loved features, such as the wood beams in the dining room and open kitchen. We converted a main-floor bedroom into a much needed hall closet, wider entryway and a large bathroom with a beautiful custom vanity and large shower. The new kitchen is now the focal point of the home with a modern layout, huge island, yet still has that "cottage charm". We'd like to thank Mike and his crew, Leo and Matt, for a wonderful job. We would definitely work with Benchwood Builders again for any home reno project, big or small.
