I've been using Emmons Electric for all my electrical needs since 2016. Yesterday Brad and Alex came by to install a new outlet in the furnace room for a direct vent water heater that's being installed at the end of the month. They also replaced a faulty outlet and changed some ceiling lights for me. As always, Brad always goes the extra mile. We recently had a new furnace installed and the contractor changed the breaker for the it. I asked Brad to look at it to ensure it was done correctly, which he confirmed it was. From the first time I hired him I knew he could be trusted to ensure their work is to code. He is very meticulous about doing things the right way. I feel safer knowing I don't have to worry about electrical fires after he fixed all the issues the house had....and there were A LOT. As an added bonus our electric bill is way lower since his repairs. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my electrical needs and highly recommend Emmons Electric for any job, large or small. Based on past experiences I know not all contractors are honest or knowledgeable for that matter. Brad is "one of the good ones"...honest, trustworthy and highly experienced. And he's a really nice guy to boot!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Do not let their website, Facebook page or CTV and City News videos fool you! I hired Dylco in June 2016 to do work on the home of my senior disabled mother after my father passed away. The original scope of the work was to include replacing all the windows, re-face the front porch, add insulation to the attic, wall repairs in the basement, install a couple of window wells and some other minor jobs. After we signed the contract, the renovations went in a different direction and we decided to focus on making the illegal basement apartment legal and replace the windows. I will not go into the details of every single thing that was done wrong or else I will literally be writing all day, but trust me...NOT ONE THING WENT RIGHT. If you want to contact me privately on here through my profile I am more than happy to tell you, or even show you if you want to come by, what terrible work they do. In a nutshell, the windows took a total of 4 days over 15 weeks for all windows to be completely installed (quoted 2-3 weeks delivery and installation in 1 day). Although a problem with the HVAC company I contracted caused a 6 week delay in my overall 3 mth city imposed deadline, once that was complete it still took Dylco 5 weeks to finish the work I was originally told would only take a couple of days. Dylan and Eliot are easy to get a hold of when they want your business or collect money but impossible to reach when you're looking for updates or having problems. Once the work actually began I never knew day to day if anyone was showing up. In the beginning the workers would arrive late, come and go all day, take long lunches and then leave early, mostly due to not having materials on site (throughout the job there was ALWAYS a problem with having materials on site). To say that this project was poorly organized is a huge understatement. They used several different teams of workers so no one took responsibility for the entire project, no one seemed to know what they needed to do and everyone always acted surprised when I reminded them what was left to do. The whole project was a rush job with sloppy workmanship. In the end so much was not properly finished because I was at the end of my timeline and I JUST WANTED THEM OUT! To add insult to injury, during the last week of the project Dylco had a falling out with his sub-contractor, didn't pay him, leaving me with no workers to complete the job. I was forced to hire the sub contractor who was doing the crappy work otherwise risk having him put a lien on my mothers home. Despite several emails to Dylco I never heard from them again. Note: Dylco's website says they do not use sub-contractors. They will tell you in person over and over that they do not use sub-contractors...yet their business licence registration specifically stipulates "THAT ALL WORK IS TO BE PERFORMED BY SUB-CONTRACTORS". I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIRING DYLCO BUILDERS. I was swayed in the beginning by the television new stories and their seemingly professional and friendly demeanor in person. They come off as being senior friendly and a loving family owned business with your best interest at heart. They are like snake oil salesmen...shaking hands and kissing babies. Or in our case hugging us. kissing us on the cheek, calling my mother "Mama" every time they came to see us. At least in the beginning. As I became increasingly frustrated with them I saw and heard less and less from them and our conversations were quite strained. You CANNOT leave their workers unsupervised. Honestly if I wasn't on their asses constantly the job would have gone much much worse! Cost breakdown: $13,000 for the windows, $15,000 for the basement reno ($10,000 to Dylco and $5,000 to their sub-contractor) Cons: Reno not completed on time or on budget or as per agreement, extremely poor workmanship, damage to original house finishes, damage to their completed work, unauthorized plumbing, poor time and material management, poor response time from owners, total miscommunication and lack of communication, lack of integrity, misrepresentation. Should Dylco respond to this review, please know that despite anything they might say every word of the above is true and I have documented proof of everything that transpired during this project. DO NOT HIRE DYLCO BUILDERS! Update: Sept 12 2017 Not even one year later and I just discovered the studs in the basement bathroom are wet. I was drilling a hole for new towel bars and the drill bit pulled out wet wood. I KNEW this was going to become an issue one day but not so soon. When they replaced this outside wall they were supposed to install board insulation and seal it. Except they cut the insulation too small, didn't tape it to seal it and installed drywall over the loose insulation boards. Plus when they were installing the new window a large chunk of concrete broke off and they were supposed to spray foam insulation around it but I'm sure they didn't do that either. I'm so glad they don't appear to be in business anymore. Not under this name anyway. The new family company name is Durham Bathrooms Inc.

In spring of 2016 I had a home inspection done on my mother's house after my father passed away to determine what repairs were needed. My father was the type of man who refused to hire a professional as he fancied himself a handyman, but I knew his work was subpar and for my mother's safety I needed to get it checked out. I contacted Brad, who came out to take a look at the job which was based on the deficiencies the home inspector found. Brad even found a couple of problems the home inspector did not. I informed him that we had decided to make the illegal basement apartment legal and were awaiting an electrical inspection by ESA. Rather than begin the work on the known problems, Brad asked that we wait for the ESA reports before commencing the job to ensure everything gets addressed at once rather than having him to come back if more problems were found. The ESA inspector was impressed by that. And boy were more problems found! So many, in fact, that the ESA ordered that every single outlet, switch and fixture be taken apart and inspected. This turned out to be a much larger job than any of us expected as issues were found with just about every single thing they opened. Not to mention all the other problems found once some walls and ceilings came down during the renovation. The deficiencies I had Brad repair were: burnt wiring in the electrical panel due to loose connections, missing ground and bond wiring in fixtures and outlets, remove exterior outlets (my father used indoor wiring outdoors which was buried in dirt and did not have GFI outlets). Brad ran a new line and outlet to the front porch which was beautifully encased in conduit and much more accessible than the outlets my father had under the porch ledge and in the garden. I had him replace the motion detectors for standard light fixtures. They also had to remove an outlet on a stove that my father had installed (he was too cheap to buy a stove that already had an outlet), run a new line for the basement apartment stove which should have a dedicated line to the panel but was connected to the main floor stove, run a new line for the basement washing machine, remove an illegal outlet in a bedroom closet, install new light fixtures in closets that were not to code. There were 6 outlets on the main floor that my father had filled with spray foam insulation which had to have all the foam removed. A couple of those boxes had to be replaced as the foam had rusted them completely. As well due to the renovation I needed some switches, outlets and light fixtures added or moved. The list goes on and on. It took about about 10 full days and a some half days over 3 months for all of the work to be completed due to the original scope of the work plus all the changes, add ons and new problems found along the way, as well as having to work around the other trades (who I was having serious issues with). As I was present for the entire project, I got to see for myself all the problems they found as they were discovered. They always took the time to explain everything to me and discuss any options available. Nothing they discovered was a real surprise to me and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. In fact I feel both Brad and Geoff operate with alot of integrity and respect for homeowners. I would absolutely hire Emmon's again and strongly recommend their services. Not only do they perform quality work, they are professional, friendly and can be 100% trusted with your home and family members...the type of people you have no worries leaving alone with your 76 yr old hearing and vision impaired disabled parent! Brad was always quick to reply to calls and texts, and even made a couple of late night visits to ease my mind when some minor problems occurred. If you are looking for a quality electrical company to do business with in the durham region, I strongly urge you to give Brad a call. Thanks Brad and Geoff! Milica P.S. I should also mention that they always showed up when they said they would (often earlier), Totally reliable company!

I called Prairie one Friday when my mother needed repairs done to her home. Roy took my call and was very helpful and fun to talk to. The appointment was scheduled for Tuesday at 8:30 am. On Monday Deanna called to confirm the appointment. I was very impressed with her knowledge and professionalism and she was extremely friendly. The next morning Daryl and Quinton showed up on time and were very friendly. It took them 5 1/2 hrs to complete all the work which included installing 2 sprinklers in the furnace room, replacing the water meter shut off valve, replacing 2 kitchen faucets, replacing the outside tap and it's shut off valve, installing shut off valves under 3 sinks, replacing the shut off valves on a washing machine, correcting some pipes that were not to code on a bathroom sink, plunging a slow kitchen drain and tightening a bidet mechanical drain. They worked very efficiently as a team, tested everything to make sure it worked with no leaks after the city turned the water back on at the street level. Afterwards he ensured he showed and explained all the work that was done (although I was pretty much present the entire time). I would highly highly recommend them and I will certainly use them again for any plumbing issues I have.
