I was pretty satisfied with Alex's work over all. I sensed we could trust him and in the end my instincts were correct. He gave us a very reasonable quote. I liked the contract. I requested a lien waver clause and he accommodated that but in the end I decided to trust he would pay his subcontractors correctly as they always seemed to do any corrections or completions we asked for eventually. I explain "eventually" in the next paragraph. We went the permit route and had a double permit. Because the project was in the summer there was no way to know how much vacation time the permit office personnel would have. Permit delays caused our project to delay such that it conflicted with other projects Alex had on the go. We accepted this without issue knowing it would cause delays in the project. In effect we created the delays by going the permit route but in the end we are glad we did because the inspectors had no issues with our project thanks to the excellent work of Alex and his team. We knew everything was done correctly. I would have given a higher rating (more stars) except the electrical outlets were not that great in that a lot of the things I tried to plug in would not go in until I filed them smoother while these same plugs would easily plug into 4 other outlets we had installed recently by an electrician friend. For me this is just a "we got what we paid for item". I guess the inspector did not see this as a safety issue but rather an inconvenience issue. So if you do not want this issue be sure to specify you want top quality components and I am sure Alex will price his quote higher to accommodate your request.

Company Response

Hi John.

Thank you very much for such a wonderful review outlining your experience with HTR Basements. We're glad that you are happy with our team, the process, and the final result. We certainly appreciate your business and your kind words justify our efforts.

The electrical receptacles you are reffering to are TR (Tamper Resistant) receptacles - the shutters inside a Tamper Resistant receptacle will not open and allow access to the contacts unless a two-prong plug is evenly inserted into the outlet. This ensures that hairpins, keys or other common household items children may try to insert into the outlet will be locked out.
This is a safety feature to prevent young children from inserting things in the outlets. If a child tries to insert a metal object (e.g., a key or paper clip) there is a metal shutter that stops the insertion. The shutters only open when force is applied to both sides at the same time. Those outlets are required to be installed as per ESA code.

Thanks again for submitting a review. Enjoy your new basement! If you know anyone else who could use our company, please keep us in mind and have them call 905-754-4696.
Thank you again for your review and for being a valued HTR Basements customer.
Regards,
HTR Basements Team!

Avoid this company. They go by two names "Save On Junk Inc" and "No More Rubbish Inc". They have bad reviews under "No More Rubbish Inc. and no bad reviews under "Save On Junk Inc." so I figure they simply set up a new website after getting a lot of bad reviews. If you call the number listed in the "Save On Junk Inc" website they answer the phone with "No More Rubbish Inc." The way they advertise their pricing is misleading. It is basically the same on both websites. They show two trucks in their ad with the load section bigger than the cab such that you think it is a small truck that actually arrives and you think the price will be okay. To get a proper estimate you need to know the size of the pile of your junk in inches then compute total cubic inches and divide this by the number of inches in a cubic yard (36 X 36 X 36 = 46,656). This will give you the cubic yards. Next you need to order the smallest truck for your pile of junk. You need to tell them it should be empty or you will end up getting charged the rate for a larger truck. The truck they sent me was 1/2 full already (clearly a rip off according to their ad). I computed the size of my pile of junk as (60 X 72 X 120 = 518,400) cubic inches which is 11.1 cubic yards. They should have sent me their smallest truck which is 15 cubic yards and charged me for 3/4 full (15 X .75 = 11.25 yards). The amount would be $375.00 plus tax. They also ding you for a $50 environmental fee which they do not mention on their ad. Instead they sent me a truck that was 20 cubic yards since the stuff already loaded was about the same size or a bit smaller. So right off the top they charged me a higher rate. When I realized just how badly things went I called them. They told me on the phone that the truck size was actually 30 or 35 cubic yards which is even bigger and a higher rate you have to call for. So according to the chart in their ad I should have paid $375 + tax yet they charged me $904 after tax and the environmental fee were added in ($480.25 more than the ad implies I should have paid). So again, work out the size of the pile of junk in cubic inches then cubic yards first then tell them you want a truck that is no larger than the one you need. Tell them your estimate on the phone and tell them you want an estimate when they arrive and if their estimate is higher than the one you worked out on paper tell them you won't pay any more. I recommend you pay them in cash and make sure you read very carefully anything before you sign it. I personally would recommend getting a dumpster instead. To find a reputable dumpster company ask for the company they use at the local recycle place. They leave the dumpster there for a week and you fill it up yourself then they pick it up. I suggest you create your pile of junk in the Garage then calculate the size of your junk pile and figure out the proper dumpster to get and what the cost will be. Because the pile is rounded (not perfectly cubic as per your calculations) you should have no trouble fitting it in the dumpster. They will adjust the cost based upon weight. I figured this out after the fact and I believe it would have cost only $500.00 with a dumpster rather than the $904.00 that "Save On Junk Inc" charged. Having the pile in the Garage means it will take you only 30 to 60 minutes to transfer it to the dumpster. If you are too old to create the pile in the garage get some young people you trust and pay them minimum wage. I would not let these guys in my house. If you use them don't pay by credit card. Have the cash ready for the estimate amount only so you do not pay more when they change the price on you after you see the junk is gone (that is what they did with me). The guy asked me if I wanted a receipt by email and I said yes. I have called them twice and they never sent a receipt. Just another thing they said they would do that they did not do. At least I have proof on my credit card sheet. I changed my credit card number. About the only good thing about this company is they did show up and they took the junk.
