The Business Response is false. Entire roof is 1600 sq. ft. and the price was $3200. The quote provided was $850 for 200 sq. ft. which is more than double of the original price ($400 for 200 sq. ft.). You can see the estimate in the images. I counter offered a proposal with prorated cost for shingle and 100% for plywood. Their customer service did not respond, make any effort and there was never a good will after receiving the payment for the original work. In 2010, Hired the Business to replace roof shingles and sheathing (plywood) under the roof. During the work they did not replace a single plywood. Shingles were not flat, when I asked about it, I was told as the summer heats up the shingles will settle down. In 2012, the roof started to sag and started to have water ponds where the plywood has curved over the years. In 2014, the roof started leaking. I made the claim with the Business, and was given new estimate to redo the work with plywood replacement. When asked about warranty I was told they would not do anything until they see a damage inside the house due to roof leak. After relentless follow up the business sent an "expert". The expert admitted that there was ponding and the roof needed a "tune up" and promised to do it for free. Basically the expert applied roof repair caulk all over my roof wherever it sagged. Next day my neighbour asked what happened to my roof with all those ugly looking patched. Yes, good roof makes a house look pretty, and now I know that for sure. Last year I was replacing the eaves trough, and noticed in 5 places along the eaves they have added 4-5 layers of shinlges on the plywood to make it look straight from outside. FYI, Ontario building code allows maximum two layers of shingles. Also I noticed when the roofing was done, the bathroom fan exhaust pipes to the roof vent was not connected. This created mold on inside the sheathing in attic. I noticed this after 2-3 years. Now within 5 years, I have to redo my roof and replace more plywoods due to this mold. There could be many more things swept under the rugs which is not obvious to a naive home owner. When we hire a professional, we expect them to do a professional job (not professional cutting corners). I offered Alpine Roofing that I will pay for plywood and prorated roofing cost (50% for using the roof for 5 years of the 10 year warranty period). They outright rejected the offer. I will recommend to stay away from Alpine Roofers, they are very arrogant when it comes to customer service. Also the Shingles they use is not of a good quality, which I knew but I thought Alpine Roofing is a bigger company, but when they treat you so bad my recommendation is to go with a smaller company who uses better quality Shingles like GAF or IKO.

Approximate cost of services:
$3,500.00

Company Response

On June 5, 2014 4:57 pm we send a quote by email to the customer with the reduced price (half price for labour, shingles & other materials). The customer responded on June 6, 2014 6:42 am stating that he wants approximately 35% less from already reduced price. That was the reason that we couldn't come to an agreement.
Despite our best efforts & our good will, we even provide a half price estimate, unfortunately we couldn't come to an agreement on the job description.
The price of a roofing job in 2010 is completely different from a roofing job in 2014. The price that was given it was half price.
In a matter of 4 years (from 2010 to 2014) prices went up in materials, labour & etc.
We calculated a regular estimate & then we cut the cost 50%
