8/10

I wanted a professional mover as I had lots of bad experiences in the past and hired this company based on the reviews here at 9.9/10 at the time. The sales rep was friendly when she came out for the estimate, but not always available; I had phone and email tag the week leading up to the move. I had asked for a 9am start time, was told they would show up 830 - 9 by dispatch, but 9 - 930 from the sales rep, and they showed up at 915 on site (at the condo), but didn't phone me, but the clock had started for the hourly rate. A phone call would've been nice. However, the 3 man crew was professional, had lots of years of experience. I was watching them, and they would not always look at my box labels (fragile, do not stack, this way up) during load and unload. I found several boxes not upright. However, nothing broke and it took a little longer than expected for a 2 bedroom condo (6 hours), but it was less stressful than how other movers did the job. After feeling confident about their care and attention to blanket wrap my fragile glass furniture and mirrors, leather dining chairs, etc., I was more relaxed during the unload. They did not have a marked truck, which I found interesting, because this is a big company. At $140 an hour for 3 men, 1 hour mandatory travel time, $25 admin fee, and bonus Aeroplan Miles, I was happy with the move even though it was more than I had originally wanted to spend.

Company Response

Dear NE,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our professional moving services. We really appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns. So glad to hear that you were happy with the in-home estimate that was done by one of our moving consultants. As you can appreciate, they are very busy in and out of customer’s homes providing moving consultations and are not always available to answer the phone. It is our company policy though that a phone message will be returned within 4 business hours. To explain your concern about start time, we charge a half hour of travel time from our warehouse to your home in the morning (and half an hour from your new home back to the warehouse at the end of the day). Sometimes the heavy traffic of the Lower Mainland causes delays in arrival time but you are only charged 30 minutes travel each way. The crew arrival time is noted on a confirmation letter that every customer receives and you also receive a phone call the day prior to advise arrival time. We guarantee arrival time will be within half an hour of that one hour arrival window.
Thank you for acknowledging the hard work of our professional crews and the fact that nothing was broken during your move. The crews will always try to be aware of signs or labels but sometimes during the busy process of loading/unloading things can get overlooked. Rest assured that our crews are always extremely careful when loading and as long as packing has been done properly, nothing should get broken. All of our crews are experienced, full-time, background checked and work exclusively for AMJ Campbell.
Regarding the time your move took to complete, an average 2 bedroom condo to condo move will certainly average 5-6 hours. Always feel comfortable though contacting your moving consultant after the move. He/she would be more than happy to review your estimate and final billing and talk to our crews to see if anything unusual happened to extend the time.
All of our moving vans are currently being repainted and new AMJ logos applied. I’m sorry that the van provided for your move was one caught in the middle of this transition. Again, thank you so much for choosing AMJ Campbell for your moving needs. With so many moving companies to choose from, we really appreciate your business.

Chris was able to do an inspection on a couple days notice to ensure I had one done before I removed subjects on my offer to purchase. He showed up on time to the site, was very thorough and polite with the building manager who took us to the maintenance areas of the condo. I was present for the entire inspection, so he pointed out what he was looking for and what he found. He answered any questions I had. It took about 2 hours for a 870 sq ft condo. When he was finished, he summarized the main problem areas and he sent his official report with photos the same evening. His report was easy to ready with red, yellow and green coding to highlight areas that needed immediate repair or items of safety concern. I ended up not purchasing the unit and it was because I had doubts about its condition and saved myself the frustration of having to do repairs right away. I thank Chris for his attention to detail and the quality of his work, he did not rush. He ensured that I understood what was faulty and how easily or not, things could be repaired. I would recommend him for anyone who needs an inspection. He is objective and followed up with me by phone a week later to see what my decision was; and it was the inspection that was the deciding factor. At first glance, this unit looked fine, but Chris found all the flaws. I recommend buyers don't skip this step in any offer.

Thanks NE, I really appreciated the detail of your review. It is important that each client can get what they want out of a condo inspection. Some clients only care about the broad strokes while you were very detail oriented. I like to think Haystack Home Inspections can cater to both clients successfully. I wish you luck in you search for your new home and when you think you have found it I would love to help again. Sincerely, Chris Thompson
