I gave re-wrap a grade of zero because I couldn't give them less. Robert picked up 3 chairs to re-upholster on Feb 7. I went to the shop to pick fabrics for each of the chairs and armchair. I picked the ones that he recommended as the best choice. The total worked up to a total of around $2800 ( 7yards of fabric for the large blue armchair ). He said it would take 4 weeks for the 7 yards to come in but the other 2 chairs would be done and delivered in under 2 weeks. Feb 11 he wanted a deposit of $2500 (89% of total cost!!). I agreed to give $1000 deposit as I thought that is fair as it covers the cost of fabric he possibly has to pay upfront (not sure if that is the case but gave him the benefit of the doubt). Next time I heard from him was 9 weeks later in mid April : the swatch of the blue fabric "came in" and he wanted to make sure it matched the original sample.. I went to the shop April 22. He produced a little swatch of fabric telling me that it was the fabric ordered and compared it to the original sample and declared that we have to change. The little swatch of fabric was much darker, different density and looked and felt like a different material. He brought 2 other sample books with the appropriate color: the samples were a cotton and a mohair sample. Before I had a chance to choose, he disappeared to price the mohair sample and Gary, his partner, told me that it is a lot more expensive, that it is about $300/yard. I said I will not pay more for this chair (already $900 labor and $800 fabric). I had in mind that I will opt for the cotton sample. Gary disappeared and next thing I know the show started: Robert comes back .. hangs the sample up and declares "I'm done with you" proceeds with insults to my face in a full blown adult tantrum. Pacing up and down "that's it .. I am not doing the blue chair" .. "I want you out of here" ... "I won't do this"... "you are cheap"... It would have been just comical if I hadn't been in the middle of it. Gary, the partner, started running around him supposedly calming him with "that's enough and tells me "you don't know what you've done ... he's the best ... you just said the wrong things " I felt in the middle of a bad SNL skit! I don't think either one realized how irrational and ridiculous they looked . In an effort to cool the situation I said "I am sorry if I said something wrong" but he was not paying any attention to me. Gary literaly escorted me to the door as Robert was "too upset to calm down". I thought there was a chance they were kidding as the alternative was ludicrous behavior that had nothing to do with anything that had actually happened. The next day I called and simply asked to arrange for the 3 chairs to be delivered back. He said he "is working on it now" and "I should wait; someone will call me" I said I can be home after 4pm today or tomorrow. (Apr 23,24) (their website states that they do pick up and delivery!) No one called and calling back at 3pm I was told " the delivery company is not going to drop everything to call me, so they will call when they are ready" Apr 23 Robert sent an e-mail with an invoice attached stating that he issued a credit of $5oo on my credit card.He mentions some stain on one of the chairs he had redone (the one that was supposed to be done in 2 weeks!). He says I will be contacted in 1-2 days about delivery. No one called after 2 days. I sent an e-mail to Robert saying that if I do not receive my chairs by end of day April 28, I will seek other remedies. The next morning we had our chairs delivered by a nice man who said he had been asked to do this delivery 2 hours before coming to our house! It is quite clear they had no blue fabric after 9 weeks of waiting, and their little show was transparent. I am still not sure what the explanation is: they never ordered the fabric?, the fabric never came in? they have a cash flow problem to ask for 89% down payment? They deserve a rating of zero just based on One of the 2 chairs that were supposed to be done in 2 weeks and has a stain in the middle of the seat area! They couldn't pay enough attention to pick a clean piece? I paid full price for THAT!! ($500) I looked up YELP reviews and found 2 describing an almost identical interaction with past clients. This is a story I will be telling at parties for some time!
