We hired Moosehead to take out a small bedroom closet and replace it with a custom wall-to-wall storage unit with combined closet/bookshelf/storage space. In addition, we had them remove an old and cracked popcorn ceiling with fresh drywall, installing a new ceiling fan with wiring in the process. They painted the whole room to finish it off. The final cost was exactly what was quoted, save for some extra ceiling insulation they offered to put in when they had the old ceiling down and found there was none. We were extremely pleased with the final results; everything turned out exactly as we'd expected. They came back several months later to repair a seam that opened up when cold winter weather caused the materials to contract a little bit - which they'd warned us might happen and which they fixed immediately. Our thanks to Will and his crew - we'd be happy bring them back for more work in the future.

What could this company do to improve their services?
They provided an estimate of less than two weeks to do the work; through various delays and competing jobs, it ended up being just over a month. I think Moosehead would agree that keeping our job on track was the one area both sides would like to have improved.

Our initial visit showed that the work that needed doing could be done in four hours and we would be happy with the results. They bring a checklist every visit and mark off the completed work. Sometimes we'd leave a note explicitly asking for something else to be done or other tasks to be left off. Despite being told that we'd get the same cleaner every time, in fact it changed several times over the course of a year. Despite being told that the keys would be kept at the head office, it turns out they were signed out by the cleaners for up to a week at a time. We realize that any cleaner we hire will have our keys, but we don't appreciate being misled about their business practices. After that first visit, we were never fully satisfied with the quality of the cleaning, often seeing 'hotel effects' and no thorough cleaning anywhere. Often items were checked off on the checklist even though they were clearly not done. Even when we specifically asked for certain things to be done, sometimes they were not. The final straw was finding on several occasions evidence that they were coming for little more than three hours at a time, while being paid for four. When confronted over this, nothing changed.

Be honest about the amount of work the staff is doing - both in the checklists and in hours worked.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
We cannot recommend Custom Maids.
