My hot water gas furnace broke down in February and I contacted a number of companies that either told me over the phone or showed up and advised me that due to its age, my furnace had absolutely no chance of passing the TSSA CO test (maximum of 100 PPM) and that if I wanted heat back in my house, I needed to buy a new furnace (presumably from them), which would cost me up from $6,000 to $12,000 (depending on the efficiency level selected) One of the original Visic brothers came and had a look at the furnace, said that it was simply not possible to pre-judge the outcome of the test regardless of the age of the furnace, offered to fix the burner for $50 plus the cost of any parts required and to administer the required TSSA CO test for an additional $150. The repaired furnace registered a reading of 2-3 PPM (i.e. passed with flying colours) and I had the heat back on within less than an hour of Mr. Visic's arrival, for a grand total of $200. When I do replace the furnace, it will be an easy decision as to the company with which I will choose to do business (the honest/competent one).
