We purchased the above furniture at the now-closed Pickering Store. The furniture we received was of such poor quality and workmanship that even the DeBoers upholsterer brought in to correct the furniture admitted he was shocked. Fabric was not stapled correctly, seats and back were under-stuffed with poor quality fill & rolled over when used, the sofa fabric started 'pilling' in under 4 weeks. Even the custom down pillows were so awful that we couldn't believe they used down, although that's what we paid for. Zippers were put halfway up the face of pillows rather than along the seams. We spoke to the sales staff at the retail store (now closed), the Ontario Regional Manager and finally a customer service representative who admitted he'd been assigned to us so the Ontario Manager didn't have to take our calls & emails. The pieces of furniture that we returned to the factory were adjusted but the problems were not resolved even to the satisfaction of other staff working in the factory. It is particularly disheartening when even the staff can't defend the poor quality of the product! After almost two years of trying to get Deboer's to bring the furniture up to the standards and quality we saw in the showroom and from which we ordered, we finally sent everything to a "real" upholsterer. At an additional cost of over $5500.00 for the restuffing and re-upholstering of the sofa and matching chairs, and an additional $1100.00 for the restuffing of the 2 chairs-and-a-half (although we've been told the fabric is so shoddy it may not last a year even though we are an adults only household), we finally have furniture that is usable. The only furniture that has lived up to its showroom personality has been the "demo" models we bought off the floor. Everything else has been truly appalling. Our experience with Deboer's was a nightmare and a mistake - one that we will never ever repeat. We bought at Deboer's because there was a time when the store had a reputation for quality and we thought the company would stand behind its product. Apparently this time has long passed.

Approximate cost of services:
$15,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Quality control, stand behind products and insure standards are the same as floor sample. also, educate sales staff - we found the level of knowledge of (very nice) sales staff lacking - ours for example was more interested in telling me about moving in with her boyfriend than talking about fabrics. a second staff member admitted she wasn't really sales but had been bumped down.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
We were shocked to learn about things like "rubs" - which is how fabric is graded for wear & tear - we would suggest that you either do some reasearch or spend an hour with an interior design consultant. In the end it would have been far cheaper for us to custom build everything and we would have something that fit the space perfectly.
