This was a small job but my mother was certainly not able to do it herself. The electricity went out on our stove burners and the rest of the stove was wonky. It all happened at once so we knew it was some sort of electrical problem. From the reviews here, we chose to call Mike at Connex. Certainly a much smaller residential job than some that they work on, but they were in the area and so came by the same day we called. They pulled the stove out, checked the fuses and plug-ins, and then looked at the breakers. Mike and his partner were quick and thorough. They found the problem breaker and put in a new one. Quick and easy. They were also quite careful to keep our rugs clean (as we had just had them cleaned). Very much appreciated and will definitely call again for future problems. Thank you!

Just a quick word about Steve ... we had an issue with our stove and I looked on the reviews here to see who to call, we decided on Steve. He called us back within 30 minutes of our message. True to other reviews here, he troubleshooted over the phone with my mother and determined that it was probably an electrical problem and not a stove problem. He recommended we call an electrician instead. That kind of honesty is refreshing. He did not charge to come out here to look at it, knowing that it probably wasn't a problem he would be fixing. We greatly appreciated that. He was right, it was an electrical problem. While he did not fix our stove this time, he has certainly earned a repeat customer. We have kept his name and will absolutely be calling him in the future with other appliance repair problems.

This review overdue by at least several months but better late than never! We had originally called Dan several years ago to give an estimate for our kitchen ceiling which had water damage and the entire thing had come crashing down. We weren’t able to go through with it at the time, but when we called him again recently, he honoured the original estimate that he had given several years ago and stuck to the quoted price even though the job ended up being a more complicated than he had thought. (He had to take down the existing drywall and insulation, remove it, clean up the space, and then replace insulation and drywall. He called in a mudder/finisher to help finish the ceiling as well. They both also added a couple extras to help my mother finish her ceiling properly). It is an older house and a small room. He worked quietly and efficiently. He was very polite and clear about what the job would involve. He was very meticulous about protecting our surfaces and home, and about removing all of the debris at the end of the work days, and then at the end of the job. He was communicative, letting us know which days he would be coming by and which days he would not be able to come. He actually had a family health emergency part way through the job, so had to postpone a couple times but was still very communicative throughout so we were never left in any doubt as to when he would be coming and when he would not be. He was also very accommodating to my mother and really went beyond what he was originally brought in to do in order to help her get her kitchen ceiling finished the way she wanted. His mudder Ed was also very professional and easy to work with. I can’t find a link here to him directly, but he was efficient, clear and very polite. He cleaned up after himself and also went above and beyond the job he was originally called to do. We would highly recommend both Daniel and Ed, and their work, and we would absolutely call on them again for future jobs, when they come up.

This review is long overdue. We had our roof done in August. My mother and I were very worried about choosing the right contractor - we talked to almost 10 companies - some couldn’t come out to see us for several weeks, some didn’t come as far as our house, some offered lower estimates but there was always something that threw us off about them. Either we saw them working on another home, standing on the roof with no safety equipment, or there were problems with them registered on the BBB, or they seemed pushy and their quotes were very vague as were their answers to our questions, as though they were trying to make it seem like the information was ‘over our heads’. We found Canadian Roofing Company on Homestar and I read all the reviews before calling them. Canadian Roofing was the last estimate that we got because they were booked solid (a good sign in the summer months) - it took about a week, but then Bill called to make an appointment to come out the next day to take a look at our roof. He arrived on time, got up on our roof to look around, and then spent time with us going over what the problems were and what needed to be done on our roof. He was very friendly, professional, not at all condescending, and knew what he was talking about. His quote was very detailed and clear, even specifying exactly what materials he would be using by name (most did not) and he talked us through everything. His quote was on the mid-higher end of what we heard but so were his materials, and we felt that we would be getting a very good quality roof afterwards (it is a huge investment, you might as well spend a tiny bit more to get a much better job). The lower estimates were from companies which we did not feel that we could really trust. Also, Bill's estimate included the price after taxes, which many other companies failed to do or point out. Bill also managed to squeeze us in earlier than expected because he knew that it was an emergency problem (our whole kitchen ceiling had come crashing down due to water damage). As far as the job itself, the crew arrived just after 9 am and got straight to work. Justin answered any questions politely when asked, and otherwise they kept to themselves and worked hard all day. They set up pieces of wood and tarps to protect our vegetable garden, and at the end of the day they cleared everything away. Aside from a few scrap pieces of paper, and bits of shingle, everything was left as they had found it, including the tomatoes! Bill came by about 2 weeks after the job was completed to pick up the remainder of the balance owed (after the 10% deposit), and got up on the roof to take a quick peek and make sure everything looked good. The final price matched the original quote and the job took 1 day, just as they said it would. The entire process (from the first phone call to the roof being done) took about 3 weeks. We’ve had heavy rains and Hurricane Sandy backlash since and the new roof has clearly fixed our problems. We were very happy with the final outcome, and the contractor who came in to fix our kitchen ceiling even commented on how good the new roof looked. A couple of our neighbours are looking into re-roofing their homes in the next year or so, and we have absolutely no problem in recommending this company to anyone looking for a new roof. We were extremely satisfied with the entire process.
