10/10

We moved into our home in December or 19 and Navien CH-240 Combi has been temperamental since day one. When it finally stopped a few weeks back we found Britain Mechanical on Navien's website as our closest certified service company. The reviews on line were all very positive and so we scheduled a service call. Jim was able to squeeze us into his busy schedule and wasted no time in digging into the issues. Jim was excellent as he walked me through his process as he diagnosed the unit, each time explaining what he should see and what he was seeing. The unit was maybe 10 years and Jim had concerns as to the condition of the unit and the questionable / apparent lack of proper maintenance. Given the potential extent to the damage, Jim was honest to disclose that we could be facing $xx to replace A, B and C on a 10 year old unit. The costs were in line with the research I had previously done and came as no surprise. Jim offered to pull the unit, take it back to shop and tear it down with the intent that within an hour or so of work he would know if it was worth the time and money to fix or just replace. Being familiar with the unit and what we believe the damage was, we agreed to start over. Given the heating demands of the DHW, the Hydronic heating and the risks of a single unit failure, we have forgone a new combi and will go with sperate tankless DWH and Boiler. This was not upselling by Jim, it was driven by us seeking greater flexibility and Jim was more than happy to work with us in building a new system to meet our needs. Jim and his team arrived this past Monday to begin the install of the new Navien NPE-240 tankless. The install took place over 3 days with each day being a further reminder of why Britain Mechanical is soo highly reviewed. Tuesday had Andrew on site for much of the day cleaning up the gas pipe work from a previous install as it was not to Jim's expectations. I have worked with contractors for years in commercial property and manufacturing and I've never experience such a degree of perfection and pride in their workmanship. Andrew took the time to ensure the pipe was level, plumb and strangely appealing in its design. This same attention to detail was found in the new venting, plumbing and even location of the manuals. The guys put down carpet runners and ensured the space was as clean if not cleaner than when they arrived. A quick search online and you can find the prices for some of the equipment Britain Mechanical deals with. Jim claims to not be the cheapest, I disagree as for a similar price to online we got decades of experience and knowledge and an extremely high quality professional installation. I look forward to working with them again later this year to rebuild the hydronic heating system.
