I hired Rugby Construction Group to undertake a major renovation of my home last year. It has been nothing short of a disaster and a nightmare. Rugby insisted on starting the renovation in Oct/Nov 2010 when I was on a month long cruise. I got a phone call midway to inform me that the reno was underbudgeted and they would put it on hold. When I arrived home, I found that they had gone ahead without my approval and demolished 2/3 of my house. Their explanation was that they would go ahead with the budgeted price and that they would pay for the excess out of their own pockets. Rugby kept insisting on getting draws even when the work was behind schedule, all the time saying that they would be paying for the project excess. To make a long story short, after getting every penny they possibly could, the work stopped. I now only have a framed house that has not even passed first inspection, with many deficiencies to be remedied - no floors, insulation, drywall, electric, plumbing or exterior siding. The principal Michael Aland has claimed that he is in London, England trying to raise funds for (his own projects) and that he would return to Vancouver to finish the projects in Vancouver. He has done this to at least 3 or 4 home owners. We have found that he has misappropriated funds given to him in trust for our home projects and has used it for his own purposes, leaving suppliers and tradesmen unpaid, resulting in liens on our homes. I have also found out that references I had checked out in the beginning changed their views later as Rugby was incompetent and did not pay suppliers; and this has also resulted in unfinished work and liens on their property. I would definitely NOT recommend this company. Rugby Construction's principal MICHAEL, is dishonest and has misappropriated his clients' funds which were paid to him in trust for his own use.
