I always get anxious when trying to find anyone to perform major repairs on my home. It's naturally our biggest investment and we want a job to be done right. Finding the right person or company isn't always about price, but the sense of comfort or assurance you get from them that your home will be cared for.
During a particularly breezy rainstorm, a small leak appeared in our bathroom from the ceiling fan. Going outside after the storm I noticed for the first time that the roof looked in a lot rougher shape than I thought it was. I thought since our roof had been done only a few years before we bought it (10 years ago) that it *should* still be okay, but I needed a professional opinion on whether the leak could be repaired or if the roof needed replacing. I scoured homestars and my neighbourhood for references, and not only was Calabria Roofing the first on my list but also the first to respond to my call and the first to come out and check out the house. Anthony came over with a colleague, they got up on the roof and checked out the condition of it. They found the source of the leak (an incorrect cover for the stack + poorly shingled) but noted that the condition of the roof should necessitate replacing the shingles.
I had been told by my home inspector (10 years ago) that the next time we had our shingles done we should replace the boards on the roof, but Anthony reassured me that these old homes, if the boards weren't broken or rotting away, that they would remain solid for a very long time, and that any that weren't good they would replace. He talked me out of a bigger, more expensive job which was amazing.
I talked with Anthony for a good amount of time, where I asked questions and he didn't hesitate to answer or educate me. He also asked questions which expressed a genuine interest in doing the best job for the house.
I had three other roofers contact me later, some who just looked at our roof from the street, some who did get on the roof as well, but none of the others seemed interested in talking too long or asking or answering questions.
When Anthony's quote came in cheapest, I couldn't believe it, but comparing the quotes there were only the smallest of differences (one quote included board replacements as opposed to charging for any replaced boards, one quote had 6 feet of ice and water rather than 3 feet).
On the day of the job, the team laid down boards and tarps to protect gardens and AC units. They were courteous and respectful and worked diligently throughout the day. I requested as part of our job was to take down the chimney which seemed to take a lot more effort than anticipated but they didn't complain in the slightest and they were hyper aware about ensuring safety the whole job, but especially around that part.
Just an absolutely fantastic experience from quote to completion. I felt reassured the whole time, and they took the time to do the job right. Thanks Anthony and the Calabria Roofing team.
