Washroom Renovation

We resently bought an older home that needs several upgrades. Our first priority was to redo our main washroom. After getting several quotes we decided to go with Mr. Reno. Andrew met with us to discuss our options. We decided that a complete gut was necessary. The project was completed on time and within our budget. We couldn't be happier. We will definitely work with Mr. Reno for our future renovation projects.

Siding installation

We had this company install wood siding to replace all existing vinyl siding on the back of our house and the soffits. I have nothing to gain by writing this review but I hired this company based on the great reviews that I saw here and I have to say that I had the opposite experience of what I have read. The job was supposed to be done in a few weeks but ended up taking months - mostly because no one would show up to do the work or because material didn't get ordered. At one point, instead of using the product that we had requested and ordered (prefinished wood siding with a warranty) I found the installers had painted 2 X 4s and wainscoting with paint which they thought matched colour of the rest of the siding. The best part is they tried to pass it off as the siding or window moulding that we had ordered. The response was that the it was what the siding manufacturer had sent. Classic! They ended up correcting this but with more delay because they had to redo some of the installation. Our backyard was treated like a dumping ground - a year later I am still picking up nails and cigarette butts - this could have easily been avoided with minimal effort. Delays are acceptable and I can forgive many other shortcomings but only if the workmanship is good - what I got is very mediocre at best. Nails sticking out, cracked boards, gaps between boards, different coloured nails etc. I repeatedly pointed these out and was assured that it would all be fixed in the end. The fixes where not really fixes or they were not done at all and I eventually decided, since this went on for four months, that it was best to cut my losses. Overall, it doesn't look finished and like a professional did the work. If these are the standards that this company has then they are not very high. Even if I had a warranty on the work it wouldn't be worth very much. I ended up hiring someone else to come and fix some of the more egregious deficiencies. What I liked the least and found to be very unprofessional was that there a steady stream of excuses - it was the workers fault, it was the supplier's fault, it was my fault. This company has something to offer but they need to step it up to be truly deserving of a perfect score on this site.

Company Response

First off I would like to say that the employees that worked on this project are no longer employeed with Mr. Reno.
There are a few reasons for this project taking longer than anticipated. The first delivery of material was incorrect leaving us with only half the material needed, this was a mistake on the suppliers end. It resulted in having to order more material which takes three to four weeks to arrive from the US. Once the second set of material was installed the home owners decided to add the siding to the soffit and dormers, which wasn't part of the original quote, therefore adding another few weeks for material to arrive, as well as install time. We painted wood trim to match just as a stop gap until the real siding arrived. This project was over a year ago and you can read my many great reviews before and since. I gave the home owner a 2 year warranty and have not heard from him since the project ended. I was surprised he would write a review so long after the project ended without coming to me first to address any issues he had.

Racoon damage to sunroom

The original contractors that I got through my insurance company walked away from the job and left me in the lurch. Andrew stepped in and completed the job beautifully. He contacted the engineer to find out exactly what was needed and completed the job beautifully. I will definitely use Mr. Reno again.

Built a new deck.

Mr. Reno did a fantastic job in transforming our backyard with a marvelous new deck. Esthetically pleasing and built to last, Mr Reno delivered this project on-time and on-budget. Andrew is extremely easy to work with, and his main concern is that the client is happy with the project.

Deck

My deck was in poor condition ever since I bought my house 3 years ago. It wasn't even properly attached to the house, and there was absolutely no privacy. This summer, with family visiting from out of town, I needed a solid and safe deck with a privacy screen so that we can enjoy the outdoors without the prying eyes of my neighbours. I contacted 3 contractors and Andrew at Mr. Reno was the best option for what I was looking for. Andrew and his crew came on a Tuesday and they were finished by Friday. They were professional, hardworking and genuinely nice people. We're absolutely happy with our deck and we've already used it a few times to entertain. Kudos to Andrew and his team for a job well done!

Deck

QUALITY. We had a small backyard space that needed a deck and that was awkward to build on, filled with various little obstacles. Mr. Reno came in, listened to what we wanted, and then used their expertise to exceed our expectations and deliver the best possible use for the space. Great guys, very friendly, and they get the job done the way you envision, only better. Not to set expectations here, but the owner stayed until 7PM on a Friday of a to make sure the deck was done for our long weekend. Very happy with the experience and we are using them again in the Fall to reno our bathroom.

Disassembling and re-assembling deck; insulating flat roof

Recommended by our roofer, we hired Mr. Reno to disassemble our roof deck so that the roof could be re-done. This was a big job as the pieces of the deck had to be lowered from the 3rd floor to the backyard, piece by piece. We were very pleased with the workmen who did a good job. Once the roof was removed, it was discovered that insulation was needed, so we were able to get Mr. Reno on a day's notice to do that as well. When the new flat roof was finished, the crew of Mr. Reno came back to re-assemble the deck, replacing the odd board that needed replacing. We were pleased with the end result and the crew kindly carried many planters that had been place inside the house back to the deck where they were before the job. The men were courteous and worked hard, often in adverse conditions i.e. high heat and humidity. We would recommend Mr. Reno for their workmanship and reasonable cost.
