Home Renovation

VGC did a pretty complex renovation project for me that included turning my main floor into an open concept space. I really give the operations manager Bryan Sim a lot of credit for overseeing everything. The quality of the work was really good.

Basement renovation

We saw some windows that VCG had done in a neighbour’s home so we hired them. They essentially renovated my whole basement putting in a kitchen and bathroom suite and they really did an excellent job.

Home Renovation

VGC was ahead of schedule renovating our entire main floor, plus they took care of all the drawings and permits with the city which is a big headache that I never had to deal with. They respected the neighbours, they were professional, courteous and my wife and I are very happy.

Kitchen & Bathroom Renovation

Assisted Review

An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. I hired VGC to renovate my kitchen and bathroom, and for the most part I had a very good experience. Natasha was my project consultant and designer, and she was absolutely great. She was attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating, and made the process fun! My project manager, Bryan, was very professional and organized, and I could tell he really knew what he was doing. I was often home during the renovation, so something about VGC that I really appreciated was that their trades were respectful of my home and kept me filled in on exactly what was being done. There were some supplier delays, but the VGC team did their best to keep everything on time and on budget. With the exception of follow up on outstanding items, which has been much delayed, I was very satisfied with my experience with VGC.

When I was searching online to find a contractor to build a deck for me, I discovered Vancouver General Contractors. Upon visiting their website, I was greeted with a live chat agent that was able to connect me with someone at VGC. I was contacted pretty quickly and was able to set up a meeting with my project consultant within days. When we progressed to the design process, I was impressed that they offered three different version. The final design was a hybrid of the three designs that suited my tastes better. Being the fact that I have never done any renovations at all, the process was eye opening and has taught me what to expect next time I have a renovation. The project consultant, designer, and project manager were able to keep me updated through the use of Chatter, which I enjoyed being updated frequently. The level of craftsmanship that was completed by the trades was phenomenal. The weather did impact the timeline in completing the project, but the trades worked through the wet conditions to complete the project. Even to the point where TWO premium fiberglass shovels ended up breaking from shoveling out the heavy wet clay. There was an issue with two of the posts being stabilized, but I was able to come up with a solution by installing a bench and a counter to the design. I am glad I went with Vancouver General Contractors and would recommend them to anyone that is looking for professional experts in the renovation industry in Vancouver.

I discovered Vancouver General Contractors while trying to find a reliable local contractor to renovate my kitchen. When I first requested to be contacted, VGC reached out within the next day to set up a day and time to come visit my husband and I at our home. The touch of having the project consultant come to our home made things easier to work with. When comparing against the competition, VGC was able to present us with realistic price estimates that were not outrageous. Since this was our first experience in home renovations, I quite enjoyed the process of the renovation. The process of picking materials was fun and convenient, as all the materials that we selected was already available for us to look at in the VGC office. When I found a counter top that I liked while researching on the internet, Natasha was able to find a local supplier to match what I desired. Working with my project manager, Milan, he would come by on a regular basis and post updates on Chatter to keep everyone in the loop for each progress checkpoint. The trades were very diligent in their work and tried to keep their messes at a minimum by ensuring that all existing furniture and fixtures were protected by plastic. The rooms were sealed off in quarantine fashion to further prevent any dust from travelling around the home during renovations. There were a few small hiccups during the renovation, as we had to wait for some products to be reordered due to unforeseeable incidents. Overall, I am satisfied by the work by VGC in be able to give me the kitchen I have dreamed of.

Condo Renovation

Vancouver General Contractors was retained to do a kitchen, bathroom and fireplace renovation in a one bedroom condominium in downtown Vancouver.

Pros

- VGC gave three estimates for good, better and best scenarios. The quoted price was actually the final price.
- Very friendly and accommodating staff that listened to concerns and addressed them promptly
- The project manager was excellent. He promptly returned calls and dealt with issues, including strata issues, himself.
- When problems arose, solutions were found quickly, but only after consulting with me.
- Trades people were skilled and pleasant to deal with.
- It was helpful to have two designers to consult and share ideas with. They knew their materials and what was possible, and what was not.

Cons

- VGC charges a fairly substantial design fee before any estimate is given. This fee is non-refundable, so you are making a commitment before you see any numbers.
- I would like to have seen a better break down of costs within the estimate. Some companies are very specific as to where the money is being spent.

That being said, however, I felt in the end that VGC’s prices were competitive and that I received good value for the money. Also, I don’t know if I would have gotten the same kind of support from another company.

Anyone undertaking a renovation should understand that it is a stressful and tiring process. Things happen and issues will arise. I can say that VGC made the process as easy as it could be, and that my project manager was very empathetic and understanding when I had concerns. If you are considering a renovation, I can recommend VGC. They want to deliver a good product and are constantly striving to improve on an already great service.
