roofing

Overall I was satisfied with the work. I was originally slated to have the work start over a month later, but a cancellation occurred so I was able to get it done much sooner, so that was a good thing. The only complaint I had was that they kept their lawn sign out for weeks after the job was completed.

Roofing and attic ventilation

If you need home renovations, stay away from Sears Home Services !!
In fact, stay away from Sears altogether.

Formerly Sears Home Central. Don't be fooled by a name change. It's the same crowd who botched my roof job, with the same lousy attitude.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpBJYlTPIsY

June 20, 2002, 25-year roof shingles and attic vents installed by Sears Home Central. They installed the ventilation improperly, causing premature deterioration of shingles, also water infiltration as a result of ice dams. I had requested that they make sure there was proper ventilation at the time of contract.

I called Sears rep the next day to express concern about the placement of Maxi Vent. It is half way down the roof. The rep, Ken Campbell, looked from the ground, from one side, never went up on the roof, never checked for blocked soffits or other vents interfering with the Maxi vent. Still he said it was good enough. Against my better judgment, all I could do was hope for the best.

That summer, I noticed excessive falling off of granules from shingles, a sign of trouble.

July 11, 2009, I noticed shingles becoming bare, curling and breaking. I called Sears Home Central to report this. It took several calls before someone got back to me.

July 31, Sears sends an inspector to have a look. Without hesitation, he informs me that the ventilation was not properly installed, that this was causing excessive heat buildup in the attic, and it was Sears' fault. He told me that Sears would fix the ventilation and replace the shingles at no cost to me.

Meanwhile, I visit Maxi Vent website and found, according to their very clear instructions, that indeed the ventilation was all wrong.

Since that time, Sears has flatly refused to fix anything. All I get from Corporate Customer Service and the local manager in Ottawa is excuses, untruths and gobbledegook.

This is the most deplorable and shameful performance I have seen in my life. STAY AWAY FROM SEARS !!!

new asphalt shingle roof

The workmanship of the subcontractor was exceptional and they did our huge roof (both sides of a duplex unit) in a day and a half. The only thing to watch for is the "upsell" where they quote to remove only 1 layer of shingles and try to charge you extra when they show up for more layers if there is any. Be sure the contract stipulates removal of "all" layers of old shingle and not just one layer. Otherwise the workmanship was outstanding and they were very efficient.

My roof was recently redone by a Sears crew, and the service was excellent. The crew was friendly, they finished the job very quickly, and the clean up of the yard was well done.
I would definitely recommend this to my Friends.

roofing

I purchased a new roof from Sear Home Central. I was a little weary when a sales staff from a competitor told me Sears had a bad reputation. But there exceptional cost was what sold me.

I was surprised when Sears called and asked if the job could be done early. I gladly excepted and was even more shocked when they were done in a day and a half. The head roofer was really friendly and professional in his manner. I was explained step by step of everything that was done.

After they were done they cleaned out my gutters and lawn and even came back a week later to clean my deck when I noticed there were some nails left behind

Good job Sears

Roof repair, new chimney

When our house of 75years needed re-roofing it happened right during rain season. The heavy rains made the repair difficult and the chimney became slightly tilted.
I called sears and they came back to re-do the chimney completely hassle free!
