Company Response

Gus and Helen and Mrs. Korlis, It was a pleasure to serve you all and we are pleased you are satisfied with the new roof and masonary work. We wish we could respond to all our requests for estimates However, this is not possible due to the size of our company and the fact that we are very cautious as to whom we employ. Greed is not the goal of Academia, Quality and the work that stand the test of time is our mission. Remember consumers that any company you retain to do a complete new roof is responsible for their warranty and any damage caused by any new roof that may fail prior to the warranty deadline,Not you or your insurance company. Demand a physical copy of their liablity insurance, WSIB clearance certificate and a copy of their Municipal License. We are seeing far too many new homes with really bad work on the roof and in the attic resulting in stress and strain on the homeowners. Treat all roofers and attic companies with reservation and thoroughly do your homework and ask for projects that were done ten years ago not just recent projects and visit them to see if the work is still looking new as it should be. Ask for problem cycles to see how quickly they were handled, we all have them. Do your homework and you will help clean up the Industry. Replace roof and eavestroughs

I hired Gordon Bailey and his team to replace the combination peak and flat roof on the back of my Cabbagetown home in 1997. Although his quote was the highest, I felt the most confident going ahead with his company, as his proposal and recommendations were by far the most thorough. Other contractors said they could do it and gave me a quote. Gordon explained to me what the best solution would be and gave me options. Once he visualized the space under the roof he suggested blowing in additional insulation. What was once the coldest room in my house became the warmest and I was delighted because I would not have even thought of it. His crew worked efficiently and left the work site immaculate each day. Gordon noticed the main roof of my house which had been done a few years earlier by another contractor had a particular type of venting system. He explained that he had found this system to be defective and replaced mine free of charge. My experience with Academia Roofing was great all around and I have confidently recommended the company to my friends and neighbours.

Roofing - insulate attic - professional advice

Academia Roofing, put a new roof on for us about 5 years ago, and I'm writing now (2011) to say that they did a great job. It still looks brand new, and we are enjoying the extra warmth in the winter, and coolness in the summer provided by the insulation Gordon Bailey recommended.

At the time, we asked for several quotes, but, of course, being novices in the field of roofing, we did not know the right questions to ask, though several things had been bothering us for a while. When Gordon came around, we didn't have to ask. He noticed that the roof needed more vents, that the attic needed additional insulation, that the spot where the raccoons got in a few years ago needed attention. He even put in a new bathroom fan for us - vented properly to the outside. Being extremely knowledgeable in his field, he managed to name all the things that were bothering us, and to fix them!

His workers were polite, friendly, hardworking and did an excellent job cleaning up and protecting the garden. We're very happy with the job Academia did.

Mr. and Mrs. West we thank-you for the opportunity to provide you with a positive roofing experience and for taking the time to put it in writing. HomeStars has proven to be a valuable advertising venue for us because of the positive input from our previous and hopefully future client's. We will never say "We are the Best" only we will endeavour to " Do our Best" and honor with integrity all our workmanship. For those potential callers that we do not see or respond to we apologize in advance as we are as cautious with whom we deal with as they are hopefully in choosing a contractor. A common complaint is "no one responded to my request for a free estimate" Well in response to this, I say, " how many contractors did you call back after they took their valuable time, expenses and overhead and say we awarded the project to another firm, however, we thank-you.
Mr. and Mrs. West we look forward to replacing the roof when you feel it is time and being a previous client you will always be put first.

Flat roof on commercial property

I was having continuous leaking problems on a commercial property that has 2 separate flat roofs. I sourced multiple quotes to fix the roof and they ranged from $25,000 to 125,000. Some said both roofs could be repaired, some said both roofs needed to be replaced and some said a mixture of repair and replace. I had no idea what to do! Gord from Academia told me to trust no one and suggested that I hire a roofing consultant to help me make my decision. The roofing consultant produced a report that detailed what needed to be fixed and what needed to be repaired. They also provided guidance on what the work should cost. The work and the cost that the consultant suggested matched very closely to what Gord had told me needed to be done, so I hired Academia to do the job. The work was done in a timely fashion and on cost. I have not had a leak since.

One of the most impressive things about dealing with Academia is their responsiveness and their dedication to doing the job right. Between the SHORT time that I hired Academia and the work starting, the roof leaked several times. Academia was very quick to respond and repair the leaks. Thanks Gord!

Roof reshingled, replace skylight, attic insulation

I did a fair bit of research and comparison shopping before selecting Academia roofiing. We have a three story townhome with a skylight. We had observed neighbours having work done on their homes and the contractors did not look confident or prepared to work at the height of our roof.
From the first site visit from Gordon, we recognized his experience, expertise and customer focused attitude. We paid more than some other providers had quoted and are happy that we did so.
It comes down to trust and workmanship. Gordon and his team provide both.
The townhome attached to our home recently had their roof reshingled by another contractor. Gordon is incredibly responsive and sent out one of his most experienced people to examine the work. He wanted to ensure that the other contractors work did not impact the quality of the work we have in place. Now, that's what I call customer service.!

Roofing and insulation

We had ourroof shingles replaced in 2008 and the attic re-insulated. Afterwards the house was so much warmer. Given that my husband and I were seniors, it was nice to be able to trust a constractor. Gord installed vents to improve the air flow as the old ones were blocked. When my husband died and I had to sell the house the new roof and insulation was a helpful selling point. Gord even helped me move when it came time to leave. Thanks Gord

2 roofs done on 2 sepreate properties at different times

Every home ive ever owned I use no one but gordon at acedemia roofing, they are the best. They always exceed expectations and never nickle and dime me. The work they perform is above standard and always done well, on time, on budget, and very clean. They usually do more than what the bare minimum is. Im very happy to know them and will never purchase another home without them inspecting it first.

Allan, I certainly wish that HomeStars would do a little editing for spelling and gramatical errors as it is rather an embarressment on both my part and my client's, many of which english is a second language. This definately confirms our suspicions that all potential clients should choose 3 random reviews and ask the potential contractor for the phone numbers of the chosen random reviews. We will provide these only if we are the chosen contractor prior to signing paperwork so that we do not abuse our previous client's trust, time, patience and confidence.
Allan thank-you for your confidence and trust, it is a pleasure to serve you and your family.
