Tom Trucker

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Tom Trucker. The entire move, from a storage unit in Markham to a 2nd floor walk-up at Dufferin and St. Clair W, was wrapped up in 4.5 hours, travel included. Rates were straight-forward and the total price (quoted and paid) was lower than competitors. Our movers, Edwin and Eric, were great - courteous, friendly, and efficient. Our stuff arrived intact and damage-free. Would recommend the company, and our two movers specifically, to anyone, and will definitely repeat service for future moves.

I hired Tom Trucker based on the reviews from this site, and I was so glad I did. The two movers showed up early, were efficient, friendly, easy-going and took a huge amount of stress away from me. They were very careful with my belongings, using wardrobe boxes and plastic wrap to secure items, and had such a pleasant and helpful demeanor while working. They placed all my things where I wanted them once we got to my new place, took the protective packaging off of my mattress and sofa and discarded it for me. They were a great price, especially since they do not charge travelling time. The only thing I think they could improve upon is their office communication. I had to ask a few times for a quote and confirmation by e-mail, and I was not given a receipt afterwards, which I'm sure will be rectified. But the on-site service was truly amazing, and I would never hesitate to recommend them!

Firstly, it was very difficult to reach them on the phone. I left 2 detailed, clear messages which were never returned, and even during office hours it was hard to get an actual person on the line.

I started to worry a bit the day of the move since I'd never received a confirmation call, but they showed up right at 3 (was told they'd be there between 3 and 4).

I decided on Tom Trucker over another moving company, because the other one didn’t have any plastic wrap and I was concerned about my leather furniture getting damaged if it wasn’t wrapped. Turns out Tom Trucker did have the plastic, but I didn’t notice until they were moving stuff into the new place that they hadn’t bothered to wrap anything except dressers so the drawers wouldn’t fly open.

Luckily, nothing seems to be damaged, though I was surprised that we didn’t have to sign any paperwork saying that they didn’t damage any walls or anything like that.

Overall, it was a decent move, but I’m not sure why everyone else raved about them so much (unless other companies are really so bad in comparison). They showed up on time, they moved our furniture, and they charged what they said they’d charge, with no extras for plastic wrap or wardrobe boxes. However, I never saw any drop clothes or protection blankets, they didn’t wrap any of the leather furniture, and at the new place, even though we had cardboard on the floor and clearly were trying to protect the floor, they were running the dolly on the bare floor off of the cardboard.

Our house move went smoothly. Nothing broken or lost. I left a jacket in the truck which was delivered to the new home in a few days. The only complaint is that they were 1.5 hrs late starting, but the communication around this was good. Recommended!

They recommended I hire 3 guys, saying it would be faster than 2 guys and therefore cost about the same. I'm not sure if that was true - but since I was moving out of a condo, having 3 guys ended up being real handy because one was always with the truck while the other two brought stuff down to him. They did a good job and the price was ok.

On short notice Tom Trucker really came through. Their team is extremely personable and professional, a real relief when your caught off guard by a sudden move. We didn't have anything organized, but they took over and within 3 hours everything was moved, without a single scratch. I would have Tom Trucker move us any time. If I had to recommend a moving company I would not hesitate to suggest Tom Trucker.

After moving ourselves countless times, we decided to enlist the help of professional movers this time. I was impressed by the ratings Tom Trucker had received on Homestars, so pursued booking them for our move on Jan 31, 2008. Although their vehicle had broke down early in the morning, they still managed to rent a new truck and make it to our appointment only slightly late - and we were notified of this ahead of time by the office. The team was extermemly careful with all of our stuff, and did an exceptional job packing delicate furniture in plastic and/or blankets and ensured everything fit in one trip (we are a couple with 2 small kids so have lots of stuff). They were mindful of our newly renovated home and didn't scratch any walls or floors, and moved heavy items down a narrow staircase to the basement without complaint. Our only regret is that we tried to move some of our "Valuables" ourselves and didn't get them to do it instead. Next time, I would leave it all to the professionals at Tom Trucker.

After reading the reviews on this site, I decided to go with Tom Trucker for my most recent move. The guys were definitely professional and in very good spirits - two of the three were especially outstanding (demeanour and ability).
The good: Their team can definitely move stuff and keep going - even later into the move. They wrapped up my stuff and took care of loading and unloading.
The not-so-good: There were some dings on the wall (and some screws from furniture - but I have no idea which ones) once they left that I have to take care of, some items were not completely unwrapped when they were done. I had to ask from the drop cloths and shoe covers in my new place - there was also not enough.
Their price turned out to be move expensive than what the competition quoted.
Net, net: I'll likely get another reference in my other move from my friend, or ask for specifics before I use them again (drop cloths, estimate, specific team members, etc.)

Problem with most movers are that they are tardy and no customer service. Well these guys are none of the above. I had to move over a 2 day period (1 for the house and 1 for my locker) and they arrived right on time both days. They were friendly and professional. All items were packed properly and effienctly. It was not one of the nicest days either (Big snow storm). Definitely I have no hesitations in recommending these guys.

The experience we had using Tom's Trucker movers was even better than expected. Three guys arrived on time, the morning of the move, with smiles on their faces, and great attitudes.

Not only did they take the time to meticulously pack, wrap and carefully load up my possession within my condo, but they also made a stop at my girlfriend's home to pick up her stuff (which ended up taking two trips!)

All in all, they spent the entire day, in great spirits, moving us into our new home, up two story's, without a single complaint, or extra charge.

The guys were great, their rates are great, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, or recommend them to friends. Top notch, really.
