Nissena Paving & Interlock

This was an especially difficult job because the it is flat. If not done well, there would have been puddles. After 18 months, it still looks good. Diego is an expert.

Had to add pics. This is right around 4 years after work completed. ctober 2011. Bbb report files remains unresolved. bought my house knowing I'd need a new driveway I share it with a neighbour so had to wait until she was ready, her husband had just died so she left the details to me. I shopped around and decided to go with Nissena simply because the Rep was an acquaintance with friends of mine, his price was reasonable and Nissena does contract work for the city so I thought I was safe...WRONG!!! I wont go into all the details, you can find them if you search Better Business Bureau Nissena. Actually if you Google Nissena you'll find another person had the same issues but chose not to take it further.

So my situation: The Project Manager was Sebastian at first a really nice older gentleman then I signed the contract and he became a real brute I wont go into that as I'm going to take them to Small Claims and I'm not sure what I can write here. Needless to say when the work was finished I had the entire driveway running into two locations in my yard. This was a surprise to me and only discovered this when my neighbour and I ran a hose after the work was completed. I should add that they too had used his hose and it was tar sticky. Sebastian my neighbour and I ended up in a heated argument about this surprise, eventually I ended up talking with Diego (Owner) who agreed to give 200 off the cost pending my satisfaction...In other words if the driveway drained without flooding my yard I'd give the 200 back. Frankly I think he gave me the 200 because he understood my issue with dealing with Sebastian.

Fast forward to April 2012 The drainage is not so bad my yard has two wet spots which I was willing to deal with. It's the PLANTS or WEEDS growing in the driveway as well as ONE SPOT IN THE MIDDLE WHERE THE ASPHALT IS SO THIN IT'S CRACKING AND THE STONES ARE SURFACING...Still under warranty so I call Sebastian he comes by when I'm not home but leaves a buseness card saying they will fix....Nothing,...I call...dead air...my neighbour calls...dead air....my neighbour calls again and again as do I finally he reaches Diego who says well basically "Too Bad"...I enlist the help of the Better Business Borough and to my surprise when Nissena finally responded they claimed that because the "total amount was reduced by 200.00 that there would be no more complaints regarding warranty issues" WHAT.....! NO WAY Spending over 5000 not happy with the job as I knew it then and I would take 200 bucks to offset the warranty....Seriously, not to mention that Sebastian signed the warranty for one year on the day he got paid and still they didn't honour it. Looks like I'm going to have to navigate my way thru Small Claims Court which is quite a task. Nissena is likely hoping I wont go thru the trouble as I have everything needed to win.

All they needed to do was show a little respect honour the warranty and fix the issue of cracks and weeds growing in several locations.

BE VERY WEARY OF HIRING DIEGO OF NISSENA

Diego was a great salesperson - explained everything in detail and did not try to up-sell us beyond what we wanted to have done. Also called in advance to confirm when work was going to be done. Job was done exactly as quoted. Workers were great - polite. Great product/service, good warranty and great price. Very satisfied!!!

The Crew did a fantastic job! Very hardworking and professional-arrived on time when promised and worked efficiently and neatly.I had seen their trucks around Markham for several years and decided to go with them. You won't be disappointed. Very fair price. All trades should be this reliable with 10/10 quality of work.

Diego was great to deal with. Straightforward and professional with good suggestions. Reasonable price for a great service.

Old driveway was removed and cleared away when he said it would be. The new one was laid including well installed curbs also when he said it would be with complete cleanup.

Well worth it and an excellent choice for driveways.

We had received a few quotes from various paving companies, and Nissena's quote was competitive. We hired them to excavate our drive way, and repave it. We had been told by the owner that a permit was required, but that we should be ok. The day the work to excavate our drive-way came, 6 other neighbors decided to have there drive ways re-done. The owner of the paving company (Diego) gave them each a price of $1400. We paid $2000. When I approached Diego, and asked if we could get a discount, considering that he just got an additional $8400 in sales from my street, he told me that he couldn't, but would do something for us at the end of the job...perhaps a gift certificate to a restaurant. Fast forward a couple weeks to the day the job took place, and I would say that I am satisfied with the level of work performed, and the quality of the finished product. However, there were grooves marks from the rollers left in some pretty noticeable spots on the asphalt, which is extremely annoying, but the job was "ok". When it came to settle up our bill, we didn't get a discount or any perks (i.e. a gift card). It's been a year after the work has been done, and my initial feelings towards the work and the company have not changed. The drive-way has held up well over the winter, but some parts of the drive-way have lifted slightly (perhaps due to not enough gravel being used for drainage). One of my neighbors did experience a large crack in the asphalt, but there are no other significant issues.***If you are looking to have Nissena repave your driveway, I would recommend having it done in the fall, for the asphalt they use seems to be soft, and the cooler weather will help alleviate such things as tire impressions. If the contract says "6"" of new gravel, ensure that they put that amount on your drive-way***

Great service from time of estimate on through. Always on time as promised and did extras to help out with landscaping at edge of drive. Prompt, efficient, polite. Excellent work, couldn't ask for better!

Towards the end of April 2008, we hired Nissena to pave our oversize, badly broken up driveway, plus the walk and balcony leading to our front door. Since you had done a couple of jobs for us at others houses and we were completely satisfied with your work, we didn't even consider contacting other companies.

In the case of this job, we told you the maximum amount we had to spend and left it to your proven honesty and excellent workmanship to come up with results that we could live with. Not only did you far exceed what we'd hoped the finished job would look like, you and your crew produced a 'look' that has brought us a great many compliments from friends and neighbours. As far as we're concerned, you went 'above and beyond' our expectations - while keeping to the dollar amount. We have told everyone who asked that Nissena did the removal and final product from start to finish and how pleased we are.

Diego, in today's world where too many companies seem to regard slipshod work as acceptable, you stand out as giving only the best.

These guys are a group of true professionals. I have had them do two jobs for me and they were not only reasonably priced, but they also did an exceptional job. They delivered what they said they would on time and on budget. Highly recommended.

On September, 2009, my neighbour, who works with Diego at Nissena Paving on Saturdays, was scheduled to have his driveway paved on Sept. 19/2009 and said if I got my driveway completely excavated and paved at the same time and paid cash, I could get a deal. So, after Diego promised not to screw up our driveway like the last pavers did and would do the job properly and that he does jobs for the City, I went ahead and got it done for $2,940 including GST. Diego also said we didn’t need a permit, which I found out later that we did. However, only months later in the Spring, 2010, crabgrass started growing, sprouting through and cracking the foundation all over. Because our neighbor works with him, we were patient when we were told that he was too busy to fix it right now, thinking that as long as he fixes it, we could wait a bit longer. We followed up again with Diego in June and then again in August, but to no avail. At this point, we were starting to worry that we had been duped. In September, after more phone calls to Diego, he responded with an offer to “burn off” the grass claiming that there was “nothing wrong with his material”. I told him that his “band-aid” solution wouldn’t solve this problem, that we hired him for his professional expertise which included preparing the driveway properly prior to paving, that we’ve been waiting patiently for 7 months for him to do something and that the driveway has gotten progressively worse in the meantime. At that point, Diego promised to solve the problem within 2 weeks. It’s now Nov. 6/2010 (6 weeks later) and he still has not redone the driveway nor returned any of my subsequent telephone calls. Diego and Nissena Paving took our money, did a shoddy job and ran away. We were taken advantage of and treated poorly. I have no choice but to voice my concerns here!
