We contracted Heatmaster Services to replace the 28-year-old gas furnace in our 1,100 sq ft home. After an initial visit by Ian (at no charge) to check the furnace and adjust the induced draft fan that was intermittently failing to start, Heatmaster Services explained the options available to us. Ian identified some signs of cracking in the furnace heat exchanger and, given the age of the existing furnace, we decided to replace rather than repair it. We went with a new 60,000 BTUH, two-stage, 96% efficient, variable speed furnace. The quote from Heatmaster Services was over $500 less than the quote for a similar replacement furnace from another highly rated company. Heatmaster Services scheduled the work within a week. The work took a day — Ian and Dmitri showed up at 9:30 AM, as promised, and finished at 6:30 PM, also as promised. They were clean and tidy, and left no mess. The work included removal and disposal of the old furnace, installation of the new furnace, installation of a new chimney liner (for the existing gas water heater), a wireless thermostat (as wall openings would be needed for a wired thermostat), and a carbon monoxide detector. The installation brought everything up to code and passed inspection without issue a few days later. We would recommend contacting Heatmaster Services if you have problems with your existing furnace or are considering a residential furnace replacement.

National Star replaced the asphalt shingles on our 1930s bungalow and detached garage on November 6-7, 2013. They were the first roofing company to respond to our request for a quote and impressed us with professional and friendly service from the start. Their price was competitive, and we selected them because their focus seemed to be on doing a good job rather than just getting the job done. The work was delayed a few days due to an early snowfall, but Sokol kept us informed of when they would start. National Star completed the work carefully and quickly, including clean-up. For example, the waste bin arrive in the morning, was filled, and was gone by the evening. We appreciated that they didn’t disturb us or our neighbours with loud music or unnecessary noise during the job. Given the age of the house, there were some unexpected issues -- a few boards that had to be replaced, an extra layer of cedar shingles beneath the asphalt ones around the chimney, an unusual plumbing vent stack -- which they dealt with as part of the job. Although the roofing only took a day and a half, Alex let us know how work was progressing and when they would be finished. At the end of the day, even with the unanticipated issues, they charged us the originally quoted price. We are quite satisfied with the new roof and pleased with the service of National Star. We would recommend considering them for any residential roofing job.

Company Response

Hi John. Thank you for taking some time from your busy life as an Engineer to write about your experience of having your house re-roofed by National Star Roofing. It is great to see you found us great to deal with. Not to sound overly confident, but it is really hard to find companies that function the way National Star Roofing does. The main focus to us is you, the Client. It should always be like that. The client is who is requesting and paying for the services a company provides. Without the client, there is no company. Happy clients are the most valuable asset to our company. They will always keep our reputation high and each and every one is an active source of business. This is why we do all the extras that other companies which are profit-driven will never do, and not charge for them. We will always pay attention to every single detail, spend the time needed to understand the project in hand and do what is to the client's best interest. At the end of the day everyone is happy. You get a great experience of what could easily be negative and a premium new roof while we have another happy client that will bring us more business in the long run.
