When we moved into our 100+ year old home, we knew the ancient 2x4 they used as a support beam wasn’t to code. Not only that but half the joists didn’t even touch the beam. They installed a sleek steel I-beam across the basement, with precise post placement that not only exudes confidence in the structure, but also is out of way of obstruction.
