We were in the process of buying a property and decided to contact IAQ Ottawa for the Home Inspection, when we called their office they were very kind and despite off being overbooked, Marie their office manager opened an extra space for us and we were able to get the inspection done according to our time frame

Shawn Rankin, the home inspector was amazing, he was very professional and satisfied all of our needs he arrived on time and went through all the areas of the property providing with tons of accurate information that help us making a decision. It was not only his knowledge, it was the way he explained it to us in simple words.

He did a mold testing and suggested that since the property was located in Alta vista, it could contain Asbestos. We got freaked out since had an idea about how expensive could be to deal with asbestos. But he calmed us down, explaining us about the possible solutions in case that the materials were confirmed as positive. Anyway we decided to expend some money in order to make a wise decision.

When the results came back, they were negative for asbestos but positive for mold. During the inspection and in the written report, he pointed some construction issues found, and considered them as potential problems which made us not to purchase the property.

I really appreciate his help and considered that it was the best that we could have done, we won’t hesitate to call him back for future inspections. He saved us from having big problems and headaches.

I would certainly recommend IAQ Ottawa and will use them again.

My husband and I worried about the foul odour at our basement and through the recommendation of my friend, we had Shawn from IAQ Ottawa come to our home to inspect for mold. When Shawn arrived he walked around outside our home and then explained what was happening inside because of our flat lot, and lack of eaves trough. Shawn spent half an hour explaining about how moisture inside affects air quality. He then pointed out where the inside of our basement was affected by that moisture. The explanation was technical, however, Shawn explained in detail how we could clean the affected areas ourselves.
Shawn was on time, polite, and very knowledgeable.

Vacuums Plus installed our central vacuum system and they did a really good job. They came to my house on time and explained everything they did. The owner is very thorough and very pleasant to work with.

Indoor Air Quality did a full inspection of our home and air quality testing in the basement. They provided recommendations on how to remove the mold that was found and gave us great advice on how to finish our basement so that it would never come back. Shawn is brilliant and knowledgeable about air quality and he gave us great advice on how the home we breathe in could be healthier.

Upon arrival, Shawn did not get to business write away. He spent about 45 minutes reciting details about air quality in general that I did not need to know. Given that my house was of small size, I assume he did this to fill up the minimum 2 hours that are part of his initial $400 assessment. To be fair, I suppose his information was informative, but that is not the reason for which I called. I found some of his advice not to be very helpful. For example, that I should have the carpets cleaned yearly or have them replaced completely. My home ended up having a mould problem. Before calling for my assessment, I had done some extensive research on mould. It did not appear that Shawn had as much details as I did.

I will give Shawn a 6 out of 10, but it comes no where near that 10s that I see he has been getting on this particular site. After his assessment of my house, he did not mention this site at all and had never asked me to leave positive feedback. Based on that, I question the authenticity of all of the positive reviews on this site.

I contacted IAQ because of concerns about mold in my home. I knew we had some type of mold growing where there'd been a leak in the roof, but I didn't know how bad it was, or how to go about fixing the problem. Shawn came to our house as scheduled, on time and thoughtfully bringing an extra pair of shoes for indoors. He was immediately very direct and informative, but also friendly and approachable. Shawn confirmed the mold problem in the attic, and also advised that we had a more serious air quality problem emanating from our damp unfinished basement. This was not the usual bad-news-that's-going-to-cost-a-bundle advice. Shawn sat down with me and described the steps that should be followed to clean up the mold in both areas of our old house, whether we choose to do the work ourselves for a few hundred dollars, or whether we choose to hire a recommended contractor. He provided all of the facts, and answered all of the questions in an honest, no bull way. I'm so glad that I called IAQ.

Having some concerns about smells in my home, I contacted IAQ and arranged for Shawn to inspect my home. Shawn was punctual almost to the minute despite me requesting a re-schedule at the last minute. He did a thorough inspection of all levels of my home, and offered some great advice towards maintaining various higher-risk areas. He was a true professional while here, and was obviously extremely knowledgeable. He gave me the ease of mind I needed. We will definitely be future customers if/when the need arises and will strongly recommend him to our family and friends. Thanks Shawn!

I contacted Shawn at Indoor Air Quality after a contractor highlighted to me that I have asbestos surrounding the heating ducts in my home. The contractor suggested the removal of the asbestos and asked for tens of thousands of dollars to do so. I wanted to ensure that my family was not at risk and wanted an impartial opinion. Shawn was able to inspect my home and provide me with information on Provincial and civic guidelines on how to address our issue. Within a couple of hours I was able to validate that I had a relatively minor containment job on my hands and that there was no imminent risk to my family. In fact the removal of the asbestos product would have been a much riskier means of dealing with what is essentially a non-issue. All in all this saved me a lot of stress and a lot of money. I can't recommend Shawn enough.

Shawn Rankin did an outstanding job working with me to provide recommendations for my 140 year old home. He was on time and so knowledgeable it was hard cram all good ideas into our time allotment! He was honest, straightforward and had no gimmicks or hard sell.

I spoke to the owner Shawn and it is rare that someone will suggest that I can save money by doing some simple tests myself. He provided me how to do the test and why the test was necessary. I now know more than I ever thought I would need to know about; mould, heat loss and basic home foundations. He is a very knowledgable man and when I need his services, i will be sure to call him or recommend him to anyone that may need his services.
