We recently bought an old Toronto home, and the home inspection indicated that there was "some" knob and tube present (and the selling agent told us it was less than 5%). We decided to have it replaced before moving in, but after getting a few quotes from electricians it became evident that about 75% of the house was knob and tube! After accepting our fate, we chose Bill's team to do the job because of the way he conducted himself during the quote process and because of his fantastic Homestars reviews. He came in and walked through the house while making a floor plan, noting all the light fixtures and outlets. He then sat us down and explained that knob and tube is totally safe to keep in the house, but if we still wanted to have it replaced then his quote would include having everything updated to meet the current ESA code requirements. He was very thorough with his explanations of what work would need to be done and why, as well as transparent with costs. He was also just generally a very easy-going and trusting person, and we knew immediately that we would want to work with him. His quote came in with a very detailed breakdown of each piece of work and cost. The total cost was comparable to other quotes we received, but we were more comfortable because we knew exactly what we would be paying for with KNT. Bill’s team (Hugo, David, Tim, and all the others) were a pleasure to work with, always very attentive and helpful and efficient. They were tidy and worked quickly each day. Bill came by almost every day to check up on how things were progressing, and to answer any questions we had. We had many changes, additions and unexpected things come up during the 6 days they worked on our house (you never know what you’ll find behind the walls!), but Bill always offered us good explanations for what was happening and options for how to resolve. His team also did a great job patching up the many holes, including matching the pattern in the ceiling plaster as well as filling in parts of the baseboard where older outlets used to be installed. In addition to the knob and tube removal, we also had his team install bathroom exhaust fans, pot lights and Ethernet cables throughout the house. We have been so pleased with all of their work. Bill and his team have been a real pleasure to work with. We highly recommend!!

It wasn't until I was trying to switch out a light in our entranceway that I realized how widespread the knob and tube was. We got some quotes from different electricians and there was a huge range. In one of the higher quotes we were told there was no guarantee that key architectural details in our home could be saved. Fortunately for us KNT was doing a job right across the street from us. I called the number and Bill got back to me in a timely manner and walked me through a big electrical upgrade at the house. It was of similar age and he reassured me that he would be able to preserve our home's historical features. I am so glad we went with Bill and his crew. From the start of the job to the finish we really felt taken care of. They put paper down to protect the floors, they were punctual, conscientious and hard working, often staying late in order to get the job done. It was a big job and true to his word he preserved all key features including curved ceilings and lathe and plaster effects. Filling the holes was included in the price which was really helpful. Throughout the process we were consulted on important decisions and never felt taken advantage of. They talked us out of extra expenses like upgrading to 200 amp service. They stayed on budget and met all deadlines. We had good follow-up experiences as well. When I realized an outdoor plug had stopped working Bill arranged to have it fixed in short order. This work was done over a year ago and we have had no concerns since and I can't tell you how great it is to have the piece of mind of knowing that our knob and tube was replaced properly. He fixed work that previous electricians had botched, re routing several switches to preferable locations, simplifying some light circuits and recommending a quieter bathroom fan were all excellent suggestions. He wasn't the cheapest but he wasn't the most expensive and I really can't imagine anyone doing a better job. I recommended him and his team for another job on our street and I know they had the same experience. It's so gratifying to be able to write a glowing review for someone who deserves your business. Bill and his crew did a great job replacing all the knob and tube wiring in our older home. His team was able to do this causing minimal damage to our existing walls and ceilings. From the get go Bill laid out a plan and was very transparent in his pricing. We received honest answers and good advice. The project was completed on time and on budget.

I recently purchased an old home in Toronto and I wanted the knob and tube wiring replaced as soon as I moved in. I chose KNT Electric on the strong recommendation of a good friend who had KNT Electric do the same type of work in her home. When Bill came to provide an estimate, he was on time, took about half an hour to explore the house, and walked me through all the work that would be done. He followed up shortly afterwards with a written estimate detailing every item of work. At the time of the estimate, I wasn't sure if I wanted optional work done (e.g. installing pot lights and extra receptacles), but when Bill, Tim and the rest of the team came to start the 6-day job, Bill and I went through every room and reviewed my options and I was able to decide then. Even on Day 2 when I decided I wanted an extra receptacle in a room where they already started work, Bill accommodated my request. Knob and tube replacement inevitably required making holes in my walls and ceilings - and was dusty work - but I was so impressed with how little was disrupted. Like others have said on this site, they are like surgical experts. When it was time to patch the holes, the patching was done very well with the exception of two large holes where old wall sconces had been, but when I told Bill that I was concerned about these two spots, he had his team redo them and the end result was fantastic. Overall, they did a wonderful job. Bill was responsive to my questions, provided change orders along the way so there were no surprises, and was very accommodating. I am so happy I had this work done and even happier that I chose KNT Electric for the work. It was all worth it!

In addition to replacement of knob and tube, KNT also made numerous changes to improve upon the functionality of the previous system for better convenience and a real sense that we now have both a safer home and an upgrading living space.

Bill and his team arrived and completed all work on schedule and kept the working areas as clean as possible There were no surprises or hidden extras and all additional work was only done with our approval. Great experience.
