The Cutting Edge Roofing

I found Rob through this website and based on the number of positive reviews, gave him a call. I have a cedar plank roof that needed to be redone, aswell as a giant TV antena that I wanted removed. Rob was very knowledgeable and gave me what I feel was a fair quote for the work needed to be done. I leave early in the morning and noone was at my house, but when I returned that evening the Job was done, clean-up was great and the roof looked proper. Vents were added and as we disscussed, the antena was cut off at roof line providing a permenant access point to the roof. I highly recomend Cutting Edge and would have given a 9.5 if possibly, deducting the half point soley because it usually took a day to hear back.

I had Robert and the Cutting Edge crew come and reshingle my roof last fall... I found them to be very honest, hardworking, and clean. They did a great job removing any debris, and when they noticed there was a small bit of roof they originally missed (it is hidden in a narrow gap between my house and my neighbours), they went back and immediately completed the work.. I didnt have to mention or call them back. Any concerns I would have were immediately addressed by Robert, and it was a pleasure to work with him. Highly recommended.

I've had this puzzling yet disturbing noise coming from my roof. It took almost 15 roofers and over 10 hrs in inspection time to figure it out. All were unsucessful and lacked interest in tackiling the problem. Using Cutting Edge as a last resort, Rob Landry showed up and in and out in under 20 mins correcting the problem! I highly recommend Rob for your roofing needs.

Rob Landry was highly recommended to us by a couple who know a thing or two about housing renovations and roofing issues! Rob did a very good job of explaining the complexities of roofing and how the process would work for us. On May 1, 2012 he and his crew arrived at our house and within a day had our old roof off and a new one on! When I arrived home to see them in the final stages of cleaning up I thought they'd never be able to get it back to where it was. When Rob rang the door bell to say they were done, our property was pretty well spotless! Rob then asked us to take the next day or so to assess his crew's work before payment be made! Top shelf professionalism! We would highly recommend Rob and hic company to others!

Robert was a pleasure to work with. He patiently answered all of my questions - and there were many - was fast and cleaned up so well, I didn't even notice his team had been there until the electrician told me.
Robert also didn't quote me more work than was necessary, telling me what portions of my roof could wait until next year to be replaced. Most other companies used drama and scare tactics to get me to replace the whole thing. I will be calling Cutting Edge next year to replace my flat roof.

Rebuttal response to the owners response - of course you would try to hide the FACTS as they stand and were presented. Of course you would. No worries, the truth has been honestly posted and I have done nothing wrong, MY conscience is clear. You go right ahead, keep digging your hole and throwing your tantrum. I have no worries for having alerted the public to what actually occurred. And your statement DOES actually contain several inaccuracies.

Since it is my right as a consumer to ensure that the record is indeed accurate, following are the accurate corrections to the words fabricated into my mouth by the owner of this company:-

CE stated: "How was I going to compensate you?" - my exact words were "What are you going to do about it"

CE stated: - "I never yelled at you" - I in fact am not in the habit of asking people to stop yelling at me if they are not yelling at me.

CE stated:- "...that I hold warranty on..." - actually it is the homeowners roof paid for with the homeowners funds and the warranty provided does NOT state that it is binding on the homeowner to only go to the roofer if there is a problem; the problem was remedied as the result of an emergency and because the other contractor pointed it out then and there and would not have done so if it was not a problem; plus that contractor was immediately available to remedy the issue which I appreciated.....

CE stated: "I had also asked to come by" - actually you stated what I have already reported earlier. My exact words were in fact simply and only "No you wont'".

CE stated: ".you told me that if I did not compensate you for the other roofers work, you would leave my company a bad review on Homestars." - my exact words in fact were "It sounds like you're not prepared to do anything", followed at the end of the ongoing tirade by the CE owner with these exact and precise words from my own mouth: " You know what, I gave you a good review on HomeStars and now I'm going to have to go back and change that".

At which point I terminated the call because the CE owner was continuing his unreasonable tirade and I am not in the habit of being disrespected like that by contractors.

The fact that the owner would fabricate falsehoods into my mouth tells me quite a lot.

This is the true and accurate record, along with what I already accurately reported earlier.

Update July 2012 - the roof has held up remarkably well but I do feel obliged to add in the following updated comments about a recent and unfortunately negative experience.

My home is located in the area that got the largest amount of rainfall in the short space of just 2 hours on Sunday July 15th. I noticed some water dripping into the basement along the foundation wall close to the chimney. Having consulted the waterproofing company, I then thought that it might have something to do with the chimney.

Being that I needed to find out very quickly what was going on, I naturally contacted a chimney repair person who also happens to be a roof repair professional. I've used this individual in the past at my previous property and he did excellent work for me there.

He was able to attend on the same day and went right up onto the roof to look at the chimney. He confirmed that the cap was cracked and should be replaced (I had told him that might be part of the problem, having checked my home inspectors report). He also told me there were some holes there.

He then looked down and notified me that the flashing around the chimney wasn't quite right, it had holes in it. When I pointed out to him that the roof had been redone only last year, he told me that the flashing in the chimney area hadn't been done properly and there were holes in it.

Since I had to make some immediate decisions in order to get things repaired and stop any more water coming into the house, I had him go ahead with the repairs, since he was there, is a professional and could do the work immediately for me.

I then thought that I should contact the owner and let him know what had happened and ask him what he was prepared to do about it.

Cutting Edge owner contacted me and we started to discuss the matter. Unfortunately under the circumstances it had not occurred to me to get photos taken of the flashing in question.

Cutting Edge was understandably quite upset but he started yelling at me about how I'd had work done on his roof and how he had no proof except some other guy's word that something was wrong. I explained to him again what had happened, that I could not just go up on the roof myself to check these things, and I pointed out that I had used the repair person before and he'd done excellent work for me so I had no reason to question that he was trying to snow me.

Unfortunately Cutting Edge became increasingly heated about the matter and unreasonable. He kept asking me what I wanted him to do about it and I asked him what he was prepared to do. I also repeatedly asked him to stop yelling at me. Unfortunately he continued with his tantrum.

He siad he was going to go and get some photos of flashing work he'd done for other people and then come over to my property to take photos of the flashing on my roof. I told him no he wasn't, knowing that that would accomplish absolutely nothing, and that he was over reacting.

Eventually I felt I was getting nowhere, that he was just trying to get out of something rather than being reasonable about it. I took his points but I didn't feel he was very understanding of my situation and the fact that I'm trying to protect my home and had to make some decisions to get the work done right away.

That being said, why would I call the roofer when I had to get a repair done to the chimney? And why would I not get the flashing work repaired immediately when it was pointed out to me that it wasn't quite right?

I have no reason to question either Cutting Edge's work or integrity as a roofing professional any more than that of the professional who came to do the repair work for me. But I guess in Cutting Edge's mind the other professional and myself must be dishonest in some way.

I have had a larger discussion with the roofing repair professional and amongst other things was told that there was a large hole in the back pan of the chimney and several holes had been left where the flashing met up with the shingles.

Whereas I understand where Cutting Edge was coming from, he needs to understand that I have to maintain my house and make the best informed decisions that I can based on what professionals are telling me. I'm the homeowner, so I make the decisions.

It is such a shame that CuttingEdge became so unreasonable about this matter. He seems to think that now the guarantee on the workmanship and on the shingles are in question. Unfortunately, I do not agree. If, however, Cutting Edge chooses not to stand by his work at this stage then so be it. I'll not be contacting him again in any case. His reaction was unprofessional, unreasonable, over the top and way out of line. He focussed solely and completely on his professional integrity and reputation rather than looking after his customer and that, in my mind, deserves to be noted by me and others out looking for courteous and professional, reasonable contractors. His unreasonable reaction diminishes him, as far as I'm concerned.

Which is too bad, 'cos he and his team did excellent work on reshingling the roof. At least that's what I thought.

Having taken possession of a property that required a new roof I wasted no time in contacting roofing companies and having them attend to review the project and provide me with quotes. Robert and his team got the job not only because of the initial approach, but also because of their professionalism and hard work. The crew were all polite and professional to me and to both sets of neighbours. They worked hard and steadily throughout the day. The set up and clean up was great. The job itself was plaqued all afternoon by heavy showers that kept coming through the area....you never saw a bunch of guys move so fast to grab tarps to cover over and protect the roof! Unfortunately there were a couple of points where water leaked through into the house so I wasn't too happy about that, but I alerted them and they not only looked after it right away, Robert himself cheerfully came in person to repair any inside damage for me. Overall I was pleased with the job and the new roof. I'll be asking Robert to return to provide me with a quote for another job and I'll certainly suggest his name to others when I'm asked. Thanks everyone!

After contacting a number of roofing companies and having received a variety of quotes my husband and I just didn't feel comfortable committing to any of them. Frustrated we decided to try the internet where we stumbled upon this website and found THE CUTTING EDGE ROOFING (January 2012). The reviews were all POSITIVE so we contacted Robert immediately. Our call was returned within a few hours which is what first impressed us as the "other" companies we previously called made us wait DAYS before responding and then sent out "agents" to provide us with quotes. Some of these "agents" didn't even go onto our roof before providing an estimate! At our appointment with Robert (the owner - not an agent of the owner), we knew right away he was the right person/company for the job. Ladder in hand, he was up on that roof, looking around in January, then took the time to explain the condition of our roof, showing us pictures he had taken while up there. This informal chat provided us with VERY valuable information regarding shingles, ice and water shields, vents and how outside temperatures affect the seal of the shingles. With this information, complete with pictures, we agreed that Robert would do a repair and patch of our roof to extend it's life until spring when warmer temperatures would ensure a better seal on our roof and were relieved that he would do this in the middle of winter to guarantee we would have proper cover from the elements. "Spring" forward to present day....The Cutting Edge crew arrived at our house yesterday morning at the EXACT time agreed and again this morning. The work is now complete and we are ecstatic! A few words to describe the crew, the work and the "boss".....courteous, respectful, expedient, clean, professional and friendly! From our first contact through to the completion of our new shingles, we experienced a professional knowledgeable and honest individual/crew/company who put our mind at ease knowing that our roof was in good hands. Oh - and by the way....Robert took pictures along the way! Thank you for making this an enjoyable, painless experience. We will DEFINITELY recommend you to our friends, family and neighbours!

We contacted The Cutting Edge Roofing because we was unable to find any roofing company within the Ajax area that was able to complete the services that we crucially needed within the allocated budget that we had available to us. When we contacted Robert he was able to provide an accurate estimate which included the ice and water layer, the shingles, new wood to replace rotten wood, and to also accommodate the skylights and old chimney that we have. He was also very crafty and made some of his own flaps to the chimney to prevent any further leaks from occurring within the house. He was able to give us phenomenal pricing and able to accommodate our busy lives into his schedule. The team was able to complete this job in a matter of a few hours and was completely professional about the whole thing. Now we have a completely functioning roof and it did not cost us an arm and a leg to receive. I would recommend The Cutting Edge Roofing to anyone and everyone that needs anything completed with their roof!!!

Robert did an outstanding job on our roof - installed new skylights, Ice & Water membrane, Drip Edge, adjusted the eaves troughs and re-shingled the entire roof. Both he and his crew were very knowledgeable and the quality of their work was excellent. The clean-up operation following the installation was very thorough.

We invited a few other roofing contractore for quotes but found Robert Landry to be trustworthy and responsive to all of our concerns - he iitimised every detail and provided samples. We were happy with the work done and would highly recommend the Cutting Edge Roofing company without any hesitation.

I was very pleased with The Cutting Edge Roofing. They were very professional and did a outstanding job. The owner, Robert L, gave us a very resonable estimate on the work we needed done. Shortly after, we called him back. It took him and his crew no time to fix and clean up that was needed without stop. I am looking to get a skylight put in either this year or next and I am having Robbert and his crew doing it.
