Parging

We needed to replace the old parging on our home. We live in an older home so it presented some challenges, mostly due to the size of the job, the height the current parge line and the age of the brick. After the work was completed we had a couple of complaints:

1. Cost. After the old parging was removed we were told the deterioration of the brick was more than anticipated. The end cost was higher than the estimate. 2. Unclear expectations. The old/existing parge on our home was uneven and un-level. We assumed the new parging would be level and smooth like our neighbour’s home, but it was not much different from the original. It was not clearly conveyed to us what the end result would look like. 3. Follow-up. Red Robin did not follow up with us after the work was completed to ensure everything was completed to our satisfaction.
After our concerns were made known, Dave Bissinger, the owner of Red Robin, contacted us to make sure Red Robin completed the work to our satisfaction. Dave has been very responsive and came to our home twice and sent a crew back to our home to address our concerns. I believe Red Robin strives to provide a very high level of customer service and I am satisfied with the outcome.

Parging

Since writing our initial review, Dave Bissinger, the owner of Red Robin has been in contact with us and wants to make sure we are satisfied with the work they performed. Dave has been very responsive and will be sending a crew back to our home. I genuinely believe Red Robin strives to provide a high standard of customer service. I think many of our complaints documented in my initial review could have been mitigated if Red Robin had followed-up with us sooner. After speaking with Dave, it looks like we unfortunately fell through the cracks and were missed during the follow-up phase. Dave seems committed to ensuring that doesn’t happen with future clients.

We needed to replace the old parging on our home. We live in an older home so it presented some challenges, mostly due to the size of the job, the height the current parge line and the age of the brick.

Although I cannot attest to the durability or quality of the work that went underway, the overwhelming feeling at the end one of disappointment. The 3 main reasons were:

1. Cost and an underestimation of the work. After the old parging was removed we were told the deterioration of the brick was more than anticipated and that the cost of the job due to brick replacement would put the actual cost 20% more than the estimate.

2. Failure to meet expectations. The old/existing parge on our home was terrible, it was uneven and un-level. Unfortunately the new parge ended up looking very much like the original. We assumed the new parging would be level and smooth like our neighbour’s home, but it did not end up this way because of the poor condition of the brick underneath. It was not clearly conveyed to us what the end result would look like.

3. Failure to follow up. Red Robin failed to follow up after the work was completed.

Parging

We needed to replace the old parging on our home. We live in an older home so it presented some challenges, mostly due to the size of the job, the height the current parge line and the age of the brick. The quote delivered was substantially more than an ‘average’ job.

Although I cannot attest to the durability or quality of the work that went underway, the overwhelming feeling at the end one of disappointment. If we hadn't spent so much, I probably wouldn't be so dissatisfied.

The 3 main reasons that we are generally dissatisfied with the work are as follows:
1. Cost and an underestimation of the work. After the old parging was removed we were told the deterioration of the brick was more than anticipated and that the cost of the job due to brick replacement would put the actual cost 20% more than the estimate.

2. Failure to meet expectations. The existing parge job on our home was poorly done, unevenly applied and un-level. Perhaps we failed to convey our expectations properly, but we wanted the new parging to be applied smoothly and evenly. Unfortunately the new parge ended up looking very much like the original. We assumed the new parging would be level and smooth like our neighbour’s home, but it did not end up this way. The wall has many depressions and bows. It is not level.

3. Failure to follow up. Red Robin failed to follow up after the work was completed. We were told John would be onsite during the work, which he was not. We also explicitly expressed that we were interested in having more work done on other areas of our home, but since we are generally unsatisfied with the parging we have decided to go with another masonry company.
