House move

The acutal move seemed to go well until I went outside and saw where their crew had literally ripped the front railing off the porch! I got neither an apology nor an explanation from the crew. When contacted by phone the manager exhibited some of the rudest behaviour I've ever experienced. They would take no responsibility whatsoever, I was told to "get a life" and he hung up. Notarized letters/receipts detailing the $600 it cost to repair the damage received no response. Two Small Men with Big Hearts? I think not.

whole house move

These movers were horrible. They were exceptionaly slow, really extended their time on the job and cost us $4000 when the quote was for $1800! Every time i turned around these guys were on a break, smoking and drinking pop. Since we were paying by the hour they try to rob every dollar they can out of you.

Moving stuff into storage

I hired this company to move a relatively small amount of stuff into storage in preparation for putting our house on the market. I had already moved a bunch of things myself, but time was short and we had too many other things to do (e.g. painting, fixing some stairs, etc.). So we called this company to move the rest. I was very disappointed. First, as other reviewers have noted, they were late by about an hour. It turned out their driver was sick and they couldn't find a replacement. The guys were friendly, but seemed inexperienced and very slow. We were paying by the hour, and my impression was that they were dawdling and dragging out every possible minute so they could charge more. I felt like I had to watch them the whole time or they would stop and talk or take a break even though it was a pretty small job. When they were done packing up we agreed to meet at the storage facility. It took me less than 10 minutes to get there, and it took them 35. I have no idea why. I finally called the company to complain and to let them know I was not paying for that time. Ultimately, although the guys were friendly and polite, I felt that they were not really experienced or competent. When we moved the stuff out of storage and into our new house we used a different company (A & D Movers), and they were far better: more efficient, about half the price, they inspired confidence, and I trusted them and didn't feel like I had to watch over them to make sure they kept working.

House to house moving - 30 minutes away

I'm going to ignore the fact that they were 30 minutes late showing up - they got lost, which has happened to others. But they didn't start the clock running until they got there. Three guys who did the move - at the beginning of July on a hot day.

It took two trips unfortunately, but it wasn't for lack of trying - they packed their van to the uptmost.

They also had the best price of the three companies I called. While others were charging $30/hour 'fuel charge', they had a single flat fee, which makes sense (gas was around $1.25 at the time). I couldn't understand why other companies were charging by the hour - even if the van was just sitting idle.

Moving

My Wife and I hired this company for what should have been a small, easy and short move since we were only moving a few blocks. Things started out bad and got worse as the day went on.

The first problem occurred when the movers were late. When they were about 30 mins late I called their office to see where they were and discovered that they had gone to the wrong address. When they were over an hour late I called again to discover that they were on their way but lost. I had to give the driver turn by turn directions to find our place while on the phone with them. In the end, they were three hours late.

Things continued to get worse from there. We should have known that we had hired the wrong company once they arrived because they offered to write up a "fake" bill. Our moving costs were going to be reimbursed by a real estate agent whose error resulted in us having to move twice within one month. The movers offered to take our payment in cash, write up the bill for a fictional amount and split any profits with us.

We were both busy on the day of the move because we are teachers and the new semester had just started so we were not able to watch everything they did. One of the movers admitted to damaging our kitchen chairs when a dog "attacked" him on the elevator and assured us that they would be fixed. We just needed to call their office and they would come and pick up the chairs to fix them. If we didn't like the repair job, we were told we would be compensated for their cost.

Once our furiture was moved into the new place and the movers had left we started to notice some problems. There were many pieces of furiture that were damaged. There were even marks that appeared to be from the straps they used to hold the furniture in, as if they did not use any blankets at all. It seemed that they were not in the least bit careful with any furniture that was not real wood since their insurance would not cover such items. Not only was much of our furniture damaged but we also noticed that a couple of valuable items seemed to "dissapear" in the move.

We then attempted to file a claim for the damaged and missing items. We first tried to use their online claim system but they mysteriously failed to receive our claim. We then printed their form, filled it our and mailed it to them with photos of the damage. The whole package was returned to us marked "return to sender, wrong address" despite the fact that the address on the envelope perfectly matched the address of their head office. We then submitted the form by hand, in person.

A few weeks after dropping off our claim we recieved a letter in the mail stating that we not recieve any compensation. Firstly, they claimed that we had no evidence of the theft so they would not recognize that part of the claim. Secondly, they would not cover any furniture that was not real wood even though the movers were clearly careless. Finally, they would not even cover the chairs that we were assured would be fixed and that were real wood.

Our advice to anyone looking for a mover is to never go anywhere near this company!

Moving to new apartment

I used this company when moving from my home in Port Credit to a 1-bed in Bloor West Village for September 1 -- Labour Day weekend!!!

I was a little worried about the fact that they were able to accommodate us for a last-minute move, but those worries were needless.

We had 2 guys and 1 16ft truck arrive right on time and ready to go. They loaded everything up quickly and efficiently, and were courteous (though not enthusiastic, unlike some of the reputable companies).

At the other end, they managed to get my 30+ year old oversized 3-seater couch through the narrow stairway and corner without any damage whatsoever to either the couch or the walls!

Everything was in the exact same condition coming out as it was going in, despite the truck only being half-full (so things could shift a lot on the curvy roads).

All-in-all, the move took about 2.5 hours, which was ONE AND A HALF HOURS LESS THAN QUOTED!!!

The price was steep compared to those advertised on Craigslist, but it was worth it since I didn't have to worry about scams. They offered a student discount as well.

There were some minor problems to consider if you're looking at hiring these guys:
- they absolutely reek of cigarettes. The truck was perfectly clean, and no smell lingered anywhere or on anything, but my nose complained. One benefit: any B.O. was completely masked!
- a driving charge from Rexdale to Port Credit -- I'm not sure if this is a typical fee or not...
- They did grumble a bit. I was a bit disappointed about that; if I hadn't already been researching movers and finding rave reviews about people who were enthusiastic and never complained, I don't think it would have bothered me one bit -- after all, think about how much work they're doing! Any complaints were in good humour, though!
- Be sure to have a couple of cups handy, as they'll definitely need water. Not unreasonable at all. The part that concerned me was the way one guy was wheezing and huffing at the end; I was panicked thinking about him having a heart attack! They're not the youngest guys...

Moving

I hired this company for a move this past month and I have to say that they were fantastic. As someone who has been moving constantly for the last seven years, I have to say that these guys made my move go smoothly. The guy who did my estimate was a good guy, he brought my family and me breakfast on the day of the move as it was going to be a long one (4 bedroom house w/ fully furnished basement). The moving guys were professional, none of my stuff was damaged. This is the second time I've used this company and I would definitely use them again. Their new Toronto office is very professional, sent me confirmations and were always available for answering my questions

Move with GTA

I hired them as a "shuttle service" which included a 16ft truck and 3 people to move my 3BR worth of household goods from a tractor trailer in Brampton to a townhome in Port Credit (15 km). I was paying about $120/hour.

Good
- Generally friendly

Bad
- Truck was pretty old and dirty. Corner of my leather sofa was scuffed badly when they mandhandled it into the truck
- Not well trained. 2 out of the 3 man crew were total amateurs. They did not use moving straps so could only carry a couple boxes at a time and seemed to bump into the walls a lot. I have moved several times and have seen the best trained movers use moving straps to bundle 4-5 boxes together and carry them on their backs, allowing them to walk faster and see where they are going. 3rd guy was a little more experience but basically hid in the truck loading, arranging and undloading from inside.
- Terrible work ethic. I had to participate actively (i.e. do a lot of heavy lifting myself) to "encourage" a reasonable pace of work during both load and unload.
- Took an extended lunch which cost me $180. It took the crew 90 minutes to travel the 15 km from Brampton to Port Credit. I left 10 minutes after them in Brampton, stopped at a drive thru, arrive at the home in Port Credit and still had to wait 45 minutes! When I called the office, they said the driver was not answering his cell phone and they could not locate the crew. I was pretty unhappy when they finally arrived but held back my comments since they guys were handling my fragile items.
- Office people were ineffective. Besides being completely useless tracking down the crew and totally non-chalant about their 90 minute lunch, the office was failed to communicate a huge point. I stressed to them multiple times at the time of reservation that the townhome was 4 storeys! When the crew arrived there, they were totally shocked and started moaning that this would "take all night", "maybe we can leave the stuff in the garage". As a result, their already turtle-like pace of work slowed to a ridiculous pace. One of the guys who looked like he was 100 lbs overweight was carrying one box at a time - 6 boxes an hour! After a hour, I told them to just to start leaving the boxes in the garage and carry in the furniture.
- One guy kept commenting on my furntiure and asked me what I paid for my TV, my house? Very inappropriate.
- I used some very good movers in Chicao (Metro Loading) to perform this same "shuttle service" from my old home into the tractor trailer. They did the work in under 4 hours - I tipped them $100 since I was so impressed with their efficiency and care. These clowns who left 70% of my goods in the garage took 7.5 hours = $900. They seemed a little sheepish when I did not tip them but I figured I already tipped them $120 for the extendo lunch.

I would NEVER use this company again. I have moved 7 times in 10 years and have experienced a variety of moving companies. Two Men with Big Hearts are by far the worst and most aggravating.

$900.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Train their crew more rigourously. Set reasonable guidelines for the customer funded "lunch breaks".
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Get recommendations from friends - if possible, focus on the crew rather than company. I think that a small company with a "family crew" that does not change often will be generally better.

Hired to move me from one home to another

These people were booked to move us between 12 noon and 1 pm in November 2006. Shortly after 1pm, they still hadn't arrived so we contacted them and they promised that they were on their way. Finally when I demanded to speak to a manager at 3:30pm, he told us that the earliest they could come was 6pm, simply because they took on a move in between an earlier move and the one they booked with us. I was supposed to be out of my house by 6pm that day; bottom line we had to come on short notice ASAP and we got someone to come at 5pm to move us. We were very frustrated and ended up living a horror story because we had to hire whoever we could get and they were substandard and expensive in their service too.
