Sure Loc Interlocking - Out of Business

Here is a summary of my experience with Sure Loc after contracting them to provide me with an interlocked drive way + retaining wall.

Workmanship – I know a few things about interlock and their work was decent. They excavated about a foot down and used polymeric sand to finish, no complaints here. Big crew so the work gets done super fast. However, the retaining wall they sold me is too low! It’s about 8”-9” lower than the grade it’s trying to retain.

Update - Kennedy from Sure-Loc came by and increased the height of the retaining wall. All is good now, thanks guys.

Met with Paul, Sales Rep. Very nice guy. Spent 4 hours detailing plans and gave him a 10% deposit, with a job date of 24th August. He promised to call me approximately 6 days BEFORE too. I kept those days free from my schedule and waited. Didnt hear anything. Called twice, texted, and then called the office and left messages. Sure enough, Paul called back promptly and informed me then that they would be coming the following week now, and not on 24th August. Damm! He actually said 'do you expect us to call our customers everytime we schedule or change dates?!!!!'. I was quite surprised from such a well spoken guy. Yesterday when I texted Paul for exact date, he informed me they would now be coming on Monday 29th August. Today, Thursday 26th August, I came home in the evening and find all the bricks and materials having been delivered and plonked right onto my grass and spilling a little onto the neighbours too! It has now got to sit there for 4 whole days... on the grass.... tons of bricks. To cap it off, its on the grass that we are not even touching during the reno! Could somebody not have simply called to say there would be a delivery today? I have worked in similar companies before in the past .... logistically, its not THAT difficult, given this age of mobile phones/email addresses. I've texted Paul (Sales Rep) but am waiting for a reply by tommorrow. Are they going to move the bricks? Are they going to re-sod that area after the work is done? Lets all wait and see. Watch this space for updates. WHat if stuff goes missing over next 4 days? There's 7 bags of polymeric sand on top of the bricks...25kg each ..... I truly hope (for their reputation) that the job (when it does get done) will be a credit to them. AM keeping an open mind for now.

it took a long time for them to show up but when they did ..wow..they did a great job, and all in two days ( total 7 hrs )..I had another person give me an estimate and he said it would take 2 weeks to complete the job.
First they had a preparation crew of 8 show up , then a laying crew of 10 showed up , then a finishing crew of 2 showed up for the final touches and lastly a clean up crew showed up.
You also need to judge the job / company by how they handle complaints. When the first crew showed up they put the retaining wall the wrong way . A call into the office had the salesman out the next day and the laying crew corrected the problem. When the job was completed we noticed that they had forgotten to lay the river stone. After a call to the salesrep he mentioned he would show up in a few days an lay the stone. Guess what ? in a few days he did show up and lay the stone.

I had met with three other companies and wasn't satisfied, but when I first met Paul i was impressed that he came prepared and ready to show me his knowledge of the business.
I was also pleased with how professional they were and at the same time they are hardworking men.
I loved the interlock on my walkway. I was very surprised when i came home and saw the work they have accomplished in a day. For the quality of the work, the price is reasonable and i would definitely reccommend their work to others.

Our salesperson Danny communicated clearly and quoted a great price. We signed in late June, gave a downpayment of 10%, and was scheduled for early August. The week before starting, both Danny and their main office called to confirm. The on-site supervisor was Gina and took the remaining balance in two installments. Good communication and customer service.

The work was done in stages: demolition crew arrived in late afternoon, interlocking and cutting next morning, and finally cleanup. A few minor things I noticed (maybe important to others) ... the lead charge confirmed the following: they do not remove the entire foundation of the old patio or walkway, they do no remove wood debris.

Gina was great in getting the cleaning crew to remove some old patio stones. One of my neighbours wanted them, but then changed their minds. She was also very empathetic to the concerns I raised throughout the day. Good overall customer service.

One thing I noticed a few days later is they missed a few spots when spreading sand between the stone joints. If anyone from Sure-Loc wants to drop-off a bag, I'd be more than happy to accept :)
