Wood Deck

I had to shop around quite a bit before I found Mike at M2R. Although he was not the cheapest, he was in the ballpark of the professional companies and I liked the fact he is local. Right from the beginning I felt confident that Mike was knowledgeable, reliable and most importantly would be fair and easy to communicate with. Fortunately all those things turned out to be correct. He always got back to me very quickly when I had any questions. Mike understood what I wanted, helped me make some choices and provided alternatives. He went beyond by providing some additional landscaping features at no extra charge. The project did go a little longer than expected, mostly because of bad weather, but Mike generously offered a discount off the final invoice to ensure we were satisfied customers. We are very happy with the deck, the quality of work and the no problem, stress-free experience we had with Mike and M2R!

External painting and associated repairs to 84 units

We have used M2R Enterprises on a number of occasions to do both internal and external work. Most recently they painted the exteriors of 84 units with excellent results and even did minor repairs to the woodwork where required. They kept to their estimate and met timelines. Some unit owners had partial or total kitchen renovations and in each case were very pleased with the results. Before any work was done, a complete review and explanation of what was to be done was explained in detail and any concerns or issues during the work were addressed and dealt with professionally and quickly. I would certainly recommend this company to perform renovations or repairs or even complete builds from the ground up.

Bathroom renovation

My wife and me decided to go with Mike of M2R Enterprises not because his offer was the lowest in cost or the fastest in implementation but because we liked his way of discussing/presenting options and solutions. Unfortunately in our experience there is a huge difference between his words and deeds.

Below are the major faults that we found so far:

1. Non-safe work
- non-secure attachment of HVAC ceiling register cover: when touched, the register got loose and almost fall down
- structural integrity compromised: when installing the bathroom exhaust fan, a huge hole was cut in the ceiling structural element
- non-secure shower door solution initiated: glass door was cut for a design that allowed the door to hit the porcelain vanity which posed a security risk

2. Improper work
- incorrect type of toilet installed: requires purchase of another toilet and replacement of the current one
- GFCI outlet installed incorrectly: requires relocation to accommodate medicinal cabinet (with associated patching and repainting the walls)
- bathroom vanity installed incorrectly: requires extra work to move it and to re-do plumbing
- non-functional installation of HVAC ceiling register: apart from non-secure attachment (see above), the register was permanently blocking the airflow preventing the heating/conditioning of the bathroom and creating non-comfortable conditions for tenants with probable business losses for Homeowners
- poor quality painting job: requires re-painting (even without wall patching when GFCI outlet is relocated)

3. Failure to present all available options for major tasks and proceed only after agreement is reached

Also worth of mentioning:
- resistance to fix incorrect work. As a standard example, in case of the register Mike initially insisted that the register is functional ("the air is forced and would find its way to the bathroom"), then he said that it was impossible to install it correctly (not true). When asked why not to install a register of another type, he answered that only unadjustable type is available as alternative (actually as we found, Lowes sells another type of adjustable register)
- attempts to make Homeowners responsible and pay for corrections, i.e. for the toilet of the right type, which would cost additional $400, while existing toilet was bought by the Homeowners based on the Contractor's advice for $300.

We paid to M2R Enterprises the deposit of $1,000 and initial installment of $4,000 after some work was done. But eventually we decided to terminate the contract because we consider it a substantial failure on the side of the Contractor through no fault of us.

Last notes: after the Contract termination, Mike refused to return the house key immediately and we were forced to rekey the locks.
Also he's taken away all the documentation that came with products installed/supposed to be installed in the bathroom: faucets for the sink and shower, vanity, exhaust fan, toilet, bathroom fixtures.

Company Response

The homeowner's complaints are not valid and represent a blatant attempt to avoid paying for work that has been substantially completed according to a signed contract. All plumbing and electrical work was performed by licensed professionals who followed all applicable codes. The homeowners demonstrated on many occasions a complete lack of knowledge of local building and electrical code and are unqualified to criticize the actions of licensed professionals. Any issues raised not related to plumbing or electrical contractors were minor and of a purely cosmetic nature but the homeowners prevented us from resolving them. We are initiating legal action against the homeowners to recover the remaining amount of the contract and are seeking legal advice on launching a suit against both the homeowners and HomeStars for publishing such a defamatory statement.
