kitchen renovation

I had already used Lampert's plumbing services in the past, so I decided to hire them for kitchen renovation. When I purchesed my house I thought that the layout was great, just needed to freshen it up, Lawrence Lampert came out and designed a new "better funtioning" kitchen. My renovator, Igor was amazing, very professional, neat and tidy. The design and style of cabinets looked fantastic and the colours Lawrence helped me select went beautiful together. I would not hesitate to recommend Lawrence and His Team.

bathroom remodel

For this reno, we replaced our existing shower with new tile, fixtures and a frameless enclosure. We also replaced the sink, toilet and the bathtub fixtures. We had high expectations as Tod seemed knowledgeable about what would work and also due to the fact that they could start immediately (we had a leak and didn't have time to shop around). I think one of the main problems was in including the fixtures in the total price. We were advised to go with a particular brand, which we chose based on Tod's recommendation and which were certainly cheap in comparison to other brands we had looked at. Now that they are installed (the drain pull up doesn't work on the sink - we were told by Tod to 'play with it' for awhile), we worry. Tod was also not clear in the function of the shower system and we did not get what we had wanted which was what we had previously.
Igor, who replaced our tiles, fixed our ceiling and did the majority of the work on the shower itself did a fantastic job, as well as being efficent and cleanly (he was done his part in a few days). The frameless was contracted out and that too, looks great.
We had to walk Tod through everything we wanted done and had to constantly speak to him about things not being finished, being finished incorrectly or just plain looking bad. This included the sink not being properly caulked after being installed, the wall cut out being replaced with an acrylic board stuck to the existing wall with velcro instead of being repatched/drywalled or a panel being put in (which is what we were told would be done); missing flanges that were replaced with plastic ones, and silicone around the mirror being unevenly applied (after 2 attempts, we gave up on telling him to redo it). Also upsetting was we had bought a beautiful corner shower basket (costly) which he drilled into the tiles crooked. His response - "yeah, that was really hard", but he did not offer to repair it. We have had to find a way to 'mask' this so it doesn't show.
We did have Lawrence Lampert come out but he was pretty non-commital on the job that was done and didn't say too much. He did offer to send Igor back to fix all of the mistakes but by that time,we had had it with the company (the 7 day job turned into over a month - Tod was sick, didn't have a part, didn't have another part, couldn't get out to the house etc. etc.). We asked instead for some of our money back (we had to pay 80% up front - in another post, Lawerence said they can negotiate this, but Tod made it clear we had to pay the 80% up front- non-negotiable). In the end, Lawrence took $340.00 off of a $12,000.00 bill. It was insulting to say the least. I understand now why they ask for so much up front.
I'd hire Igor in a second - he was fantastic. Tod, however, should stick to plumbing and not call himself a 'design consultant' as was what he put on his business card. We just hope the plumbing stays intact and that the insides are done with better precision than the outsides. We can live with the reno as overall, it looks good. We just wish a little more care was given to the details of the project and that the owner showed more appreciation for our concerns.

Company Response

Lampert Group of Companies does over 200 jobs a year and 98% of our customers are completely satisfied, very few go wrong and we try our best to try to satisfy our customers. The brand of faucet that you yourself researched and selected on your own is American Standard. American Standard has been selling their product in the Canadian market since 1907 and is far from cheap in quality. I think your main issue with this faucet was the location of the Divertor Spout. Normally in shower stall applications we would recommend using a Hand shower on slider bar therefore a spout is not needed. But if a Customer wants one we would recommend that it be installed a "hand" height so no bending and reaching is required. When the wall was open Ihor and Todd discussed with you the position for the spout, and other options were available before the wall was finished. All other issues were minor and I offered to send Ihor back to re-silicone the sink and mirror which in fact was existing and had an existing gap at the top, We recommended the mirror be replaced as the backing was coming off. The "Plastic" flanges are always used as they look good and don't rust as a metal one would. I offered to drywall over the hole that was cut or install a proper access panel. The Lampert family has been doing renovations for over 40 years. Our payment structure has always been the same, and it is negotiable at the customers request. We Do Not force people to sign contracts. There was also another delay in the finishing due to the fact that you wanted to paint room before the fixtures went in. Custom glass takes approx. 2 weeks to produce and install from time of measuring. You stated above in your letter that Ihor was Fantastic, glass looked great and overall job was good. I hardly think your job only rated a 2-star. With that said, I stand behind our work and I am willing to send Ihor back to do the touch ups you require.

Rough in 3pc & 2pc bathroom. Remove and replace galvanized piping with copper. Rough in Washing machine piping. Replace cast iron stack with Plastic stack.

I was nervous about all the work that had to be done in my home after speaking with numerous plumbers. Lampert plumbing had the best prices AND customer service. My biggest complaint is about a lot of these trades people acting like they're doing you a favour and not returning calls. I guess they don't need the money! Arthur Lampert always got back to me and took the time to answer any questions I had until I understood. Bob did a great job in the house. He was thorough and made sure the job was done right the first time.

bathroom reno

Asked them to gut bathroom and completely renovate. Had problems though. Wanted me to give them 40% of deposit - thought they would start right away and didn't start for 2 months. Totally misled me. The project manager quit in the middle of the project and they didn't tell me. They didn't consult regarding final design and measurements. Too longer than they said - 2 weeks and took 2 1/2 months. They cut the counter the wrong size. Tiling is installed crooked. New walls are warped. Paint job was done very sloppily. Radiator was damaged. When they re-attached rad its now leaking water and certainly wasn't before. The new counter wasn't sealed properly.

Company Response

The Lampert family has been doing renovations for over 40 years. Our payment structure and timeline for jobs have always been the same, and it negotiable at the customer’s request. It is our policy not to start a job until the required materials have arrived, once they had we attempted to schedule this job; but the customer was unavailable until the following week.

It is very difficult to fix issues if we are unaware of them. Once complaints and concerns were finally brought to the office’s attention, Mr. Lampert himself went onsite to assess the situation. We attempted to rectify the issues, by supplying a new vanity top, sending a different installer, and having the plumbing done by our oldest and most experienced plumber. All of this, plus removing the extra costs we incurred for removing old pipes to make this customer happy.

Lampert prides itself on quality work and craftsmanship. We attempted many times to remedy the problems at this particular site, and we were under the impression that this job was complete and that the customer was pleased.

bathroom renovation

I have used Lampert Plumbing on multiple occasions. They completed a basement bathroom renovation for me, have replaced plumbing fixtures and retiled an upstairs shower. In the case of the upstairs shower I had two other companies tell me I had to rip out my shower becuase of a leak. Lawrence Lampert told me that retiling would solve the problem. Lampert completed the repair, solved the issue, and I saved at least $5,000. ALl of their work is top quality and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Two condo bathrooms

Doing both bathrooms in a condo with many rules and restrictions required flexibility, understanding, and tremendous organizational skills. Lampert understood the construction and workings of a modern high rise, and all work was completed without incident. Lawrence Lampert worked with us through all phases from the design right through the post construction inspection. His suggestions were invaluable in ensuring the renovations met our needs for practicality and beauty. We had an air jet tub installed and converted one bathtub into a walk-in shower stall. Custom vanities, pot lights, glass shower and tub enclosures, and new fixtures were included in the total renovation. It was great having to deal with only one person, Lawrence Lampert, who was always available and who coordinated all the trades, deliveries and purchasing involved in a reno of this magnitude.

bathroom reno

I found Lampert at the International Home Show last year. I liked the tub surround that was something much better than the standard smooth white or little tiles. Made arrangements to visit the showroom and found everything on display which made decision making easier. Lawrence was easy to deal with, no presure, honest with cost/benefit. I ended up with a great looking surround in a walk in shower, new tile, walls, ceiling. Work was done quickly and competently with a minimum of disruption. I am very pleased with the result and no longer have to cringe when guests use my bathroom - in fact, I invited the neighbours in to show it off!
