designing my own walk-in closet

I have a storage space within my new apartment that I decided to turn into a walk-in closet for myself. I didn't want the cheap looking wire shelves and racks and wanted actual wood shelves. After looking a few different options for a do-it-myself home projects, I decided to go with the closet / storage options that Ikea had to offer. Knowing that I have had several pieces of build-yourself Ikea furniture pieces, I knew that it would be easy enough for me to tackle. Depending on the number of shelves you decide to connect together, your walk-in closet could add up. I chose for myself 4 big shelving units and connected the shelves into an L-shape formation. I like the options that Ikea offers for drawers. I have wire basket drawers on my highest shelf so that without climbing up, I could see what my basket drawer had. I also have 4 regular drawers, one slide out for jewelry, and 2 shoe rack slide outs. I love my closet and the staff there were friendly and helpful in helping me configure my closet. Just remember, if you don't own a truck, you'll have to tack on about $50 for delivery depending on where you live.

chair

We went to Ikea to look for a chair for the baby's room and found a great selection! We were not sure if we wanted a rocking chair or a covered chair. After testing a few chairs we bought a Pello chair as it was the most economical choice for us. It doesn't take up too much space and it sorta "rocks" too. Could not help but pick up a few extra things as everything looked so cute and useful. This is a great place to shop with the whole family!! My 4 year old daughter loves going for the food and the play area.

Coffee Table

Thanks to the Canadaline and improved transit, the Ikea is so much easier to access compared to a few years ago. I was able to take home the compact coffee table back home on the train and the bus. I would recommend this place for people looking for simple and affordable furniture pieces. The kids section is fun to look at as well!

MALM drawer

I bought the Malm drawer when I first moved into my place and found that this drawer is sleek and holds up with all the stuff I put in and on top of it. It works as my bedroom drawer and I think it would be suitable for a sliding coffee table.

Ikea Kitchen Countertop

We purchased a Pragel countertop from Richmond, BC store only to discover upon unwrapping the product on installation day that it had a 6 inch flaw on the surface. As our carpenter's clock was ticking and we had an urgent deadline, we had to cut out a large section and butt another piece to it to complete the counter. I now have a large seam which we patched with caulking just inches from our sink. Looks like hell. We live on Vancouver Island and had the kitchen delivered so had to deal with IKEA by phone. IKEA made it very difficult to register a complaint: many 20-minute wait phone calls, e-mails, requests for photos, more requests for photos, etc. Ultimately,IKEA accepted that the product was flawed. Many weeks later IKEA decided to refund us for only PART of the cost. Customer Service in Montreal was, evaisive and rude and challenged me about the validity of my claim. I was left feeling humiliated and ripped off--absolutely shocking customer service.

Furthermore, our carpenter was appalled by the thinness of the coutertop material, and the course chip board used on the interior. One little knife cut and the interior will be exposed to water and thus, swelling. Run Don't Walk from this product, and beware of poor customer service.

Kitchen renovation

Hi purchased a new kitchen from Ikea because they had great functionality, style at a very competitive rate. Over all I'm am please with the kitchen. However they did mess up my counter tops order and took over three months to correct the problem with a great deal of time and pushing from my side of things. Very poor service. On a side Ikea kitchen are great value for your money but you have to do it your self and it is a lot of hard work a little above what they advertise in skill level.

Futon for guests

I had guest coming over. I did not want to spend too much money on a new bed/mattress. A friend of mine recommended Ikea. They had a huge selection at a reasnable price. What I like the most is that I chose what I wanted and right away went and picked it. It was easy and did not have to wait for it o be delivered or ordered.

Customer Service

Customers are required to obtain product from Bins, which I did. When I opened two cartons with the same item number I discovered that instructions and parts were missing from both - obviously re-stocked products. What a complete hassle trying to resolve this error which was not mine. I get the impression Ikea deliberatly frustrates anyone trying to reach them. I spend way too long on hold only to be given the run around. In fact I'm writing this while on hold - I still have not received a replacement for an item I returned Oct 16th. I'm not even going to go into detail - I'm sure others have similar stories. I'm just totally disappointed in Ikea, I generally like their inovative products but without acceptable customer service, even reasonably priced mechandise becomes to costly to purchase at Ikea. Hopefully my story will end well - and soon cus I'm very tired on being on hold
